Thinking about the pros/cons of a big boy (400pts) or a combination of 3 Hammerheads and Skyrays (390pts).
On the defensive side, Stormsurge has a better save at 2+/4++ at 20 wounds, but the tanks have a combined total of 42 wounds at a 3+ and no invuln. I don't really see a big difference between T10 and T11. The invuln is a huge plus, but having literally twice as many wounds seems great.

On first glance, 9 seeker missile shots gets more damage through into targets that you want to shoot at (such as Knights, Magnus, and a Gladius). However, the Surge hits better and requires fewer Observer units to help it (or it can use the strat). The small arms between the two options are almost a 1:1 comparison.

Anyone got any insight?

I'd rather have a mix of tanks vs 1 Stormsurge.
Besides having more wounds, they simply give me more options.

Depends on the rest of your list. If you have a powerful single-target buff (a single Tetra squadron, for example) the Stormsurge will do better because it can buff all 400 points at once while the tanks are only getting 130 points buffed. If you don't have that constraint then the Hammerheads will do better. They have more total firepower, better movement options, and the redundancy of splitting your investment up into three separate units.

a few points, though I have not used and don't own a Stormsurge

1. three tanks can be in three different places, say three objectives, or blocking enemy movement in three areas
2. three tanks can bring six seeker missiles
3. its a lot easier to hide a tank
4. enemy firepower is diluted against tanks (more chance of overkill or not doing enough damage)
5. the tanks are more mobile, and if a requirement is to advance one you lose less firepower as the other two can still shoot

flip side
1. three tanks can be destroyed in stages while the stormsurge will be dishing out the sama firepower for longer
2. its easier to guide a single stormsurge (though any T'au list should be able to guide three tanks for the most part)
3. single Stormsurge takes less space to deploy
4. single stormsurge is easier to screen
