Hello again!
In short, what's the difference between 1st and 2nd edition versions of the game?
Thanks in advance!

There really is no short answer to that!

V2 added the force to the game along with making the game 7 factions rather than 3, it added new manoeuvres, added new upgrade options, new actions etc. etc.

Then V2.5 changed the squad building to 20pts with set ship load outs, made quick builds all but mandatory and added missions.

I guess I should've expected it to be something more complicated than "oh nothing, just a new paint job!" Lol!
I appreciate the reply. The main reason for the question is I want to get back into playing and in her enthusiasm my gf got me a 1st ed. Millennium Falcon. Can I salvage it and make it usable somehow?

There are conversion kits available that allow you to use your v1 ships in v2 and the Millenium Falcon is supported.

Yeah the conversion kits are the way to go and are needed for v2 as the dials on pretty much every ship changed.

Have a hunt around though as they can often he picked up really cheap, or if you have a limited collection of v1 ships it may be cheaper to get the stuff parted out, they frequently come up on Facebook trade groups.

The conversion kit it is! Thank you guys, just what I needed. I'm glad it'll be "painless", lol.

Another question. Is the Imperial Decimator a good ship to counter the Falcon with, or even worth it in general? Or is it better to stay small ship v the Falcon?

You looking at playing single ships against each other? They are pretty comparable though the Falcon has better pilots largely and better dial. Bear in mind though that in v2 360 turret arcs no longer exist, its now a bowtie that takes an action to rotate.

More just trying to go for balance. Couple of fighters and the Falcon vs what and fighters. The decimator is the only quick stop gap other than maybe slave 1, which I also like the idea of.

Slave 1 is a beast but no longer in the Imperial line up, it is Scum and CIS now.

Oh yes, the game changed a lot for v2 and then quite a bit more for 2.5. I hate 2.5 though...

If you want to stick to v2 then there is a legacy squad builder for it;

For 2.5;

Where do I find the rule changes from 2 to 2.5, then to 3?

Also any suggestions on a play may. I was going to use black fabric and my gf said no, get a real one, lol

The current rules is whats called 2.5, there is no 3, and they are available from Atomic Mass Games website.
Not sure where to find v2 rules, I will have a hunt and see if I can find them somewhere for you.

As for playmats, the AMG/FFG are good, as you are in the US Frontline Gaming will be worth a look too. ( https://store.frontlinegaming.org/collections/gaming-mats).
Just make sure that whatever mat you go for is 3'x3' and made of neoprene.

Cheap they certainly are not but looked after they will last you for ever, my favourite mat (the Death Star 2 one from FFG) I bought on release and it is still going strong and that is from 2016 and has had hundreds of games played on it.

If looking on ebay remember to check the material that it is made of and if it doesn't state it then ask, vinyl mats are horrible for x wing as things skid across the surface which they do not with neoprene.

I found a double sided one. Space one side, death star on the other.

Also, is the BTA-NR2 Y- Wing Expansion any good? It sounds like they're chopped down versions? I found a really good deal, but don't know if they're worth it?

They are Resistance faction not Rebel (the Rebel symbol in orange denotes Resistance from the sequel trilogy) so it is worth bearing that in mind. I would say though that other than the Republic Y-Wing (and some Scum pilots) Y -Wings tend to be pretty underwhelming.

Well I'm clearly dragging my feet getting my ships. I currently own 1 x wing, 1 y wing and 2 tie fighters. Suggestions on ships to get as I move forward? Wanting to stay imperial v rebel at the moment. I may branch out. The scum v the imperials may be fun too?

Please tell me the b wing is usable?

As your collection is so small have you considered getting the multi ship boxes like Skystrike academy and phoenix cell?

And yeah, B wings are useable, even fairly good and better yet with phoenix cell.

hey, yes. i was actually looking at the rebel squadron starter pack. combining it with my sole x wing would give me 2 x, 2 a and 2 y. thought about the same pack but for the imperials.
the 2 you mentioned have now made it to the list, 3rd and 4th, lol. unless you advise them before the ones I mentioned?

also, are the version 1 upgrade cards still ok to use? I do like how all the cards are the same size now.

I sure appreciate the input you've provided. all the input is very helpful. if I can figure out loading a pic, I'll show you all what I went with, lol!

edit
i actually like the price and ships for skystrike better than the other imperial squadron pack . you lose 1 ship, but at that price I could buy skystrike and 2 ties separately for cheaper.

V1 cards have no use sadly, they are all totally re written.

I would probably recommend Sky Strike over the Imperial starter as the three ships in it are a lot better. Your V1 Ties are useable in 2nd if you print there cards off as their dials did not change.

Adding in the Phoenix cell gives some much better and useable ships as well as introduction to the force.

I would recommend either Tie advance as well (either the inquisitors v1 or Vaders x1) for force shenanigans and because they are good.

The starter set I got was v2, thankfully my ties and x wing should be ok.

Does Luke not have force? It is by pilot, not ship, I'm guessing?

Oh, yeah v2 Luke in an X Wing has the force, its the pink/purple icon and colour on his card.

I think I'm a big fan of the game, or the idea of dogfighting my favorite spaceships, because of being a fan of the movies. I'm sure that's anyone who plays this game. I think I want to stick with the rebel v imperial theme for the time being. I almost fell into the trap of getting a bunch of ships because I like them, instead of how they play. Love the Y wing

So what ships do you fine folks suggest to get and to stay away from?

To get so far:
Phoenix squadron
Skystrike academy
Tie advanced/sith inquisitor tie

Don't get:
Any more y wings

Thanks for your input!

Have you played at all? I would say next purchases should come down to leaning inti what you find the most fun.
I was principally a scum player (hence the avatar and strap line) and loved janky combos so started buying more stuff to fill out that niche.
That said though you can never go wrong with more TIE/ln, 5 is a good number! Lambda is a good support piece, phantoms are high skill and high reward things.
For Rebels, well the Ghost is great as a model and fairly good in game but everything else is going to be pretty playstyle dependant.

No I haven't, hence asking before I go to far down a y wing path.

Do you still play?

I appreciate your in put.

I still play for fun, haven't been to a competitive event since my first of v2.5 but used to play pretty hardcore before that. 10-20 games a week, every Regional and National and even flew to OZ for a System Open.

What I wouldn't give to have the time/money to do that! I'm envious!! That also speaks how 2.5 has impacted the game, I fear.
