Hey! I'm sharing with you this week's Sheol-morg Champions Tactics shared on Tactical Tuesday.

First, there is a brief introduction to the general Champions Tactics for any Argatoria army you play, followed by the tactical advice for all 3 basic Sheol-morg Champions.
__________

Champions Tactics

Champions in Argatoria play a crucial role in supporting the friendly units with special abilities and effects. It is worth considering which particular units your Champions will support and which can be left alone, as it may tip the tide of victory.

Avoid attaching a Champion to a one-rank unit unless you are sure you are likely to quickly defeat the enemy unit you are planning to attack (for example, when your target is also a one-rank unit). Otherwise, if you remain locked in combat, you may become a charge target for other enemy units.

Any one-rank unit in Argatoria is rather easy to destroy if the opponent attacks with a more numerous unit, so you put your Champion’s life at risk. There might be exceptions when such a risk is worth it, as it depends on a given Champion, but still, if the Champion fails his ability roll, your master plan may go to shreds. Keep in mind that all Champions can be defeated upon base contact with the enemy units and, if that happens, you will not be able to use their abilities anymore. As a general rule, it is safer to attach the Champions to at least two-rank units.

Remember that the point of contact between your Champion and a friendly unit will have to remain the same once you move that unit with that Champion. Be careful not to attach the Champion to an edge that can be easily charged by an opponent, risking base contact between the Champion and the enemy that may lead to the Champion’s death.
__________

Sheol-morg Champions Tactics

Champion of Dark Gods

When attached to a friendly unit engaged in combat, the Champion of Dark Gods may force the enemy unit to re-roll all successful scores in the Weapon Skill Test or the Wound Test. He also provides the unit with 5 additional attacks instead of 4.

Attach this Champion to the Horned Warriors or Black Knights on Horgars to significantly boost their defence – they already have protection thanks to the Heavy Armour rule, but with such additional support, they can stay on the battlefield for even longer. Attach this Champion to the Hordes – if an enemy unit that is not a Horde charges your Horde, it will not only lose the charge bonuses (as a result of the Horde rule), but may also have to re-roll all successful hits or wounds thanks to the support from the Champion of Dark Gods. Don’t waste this Champion on small units – as tempting it may be not to let your one-rank unit die, remember that if the Champion of Dark Gods fails to activate his rule, the unit can be destroyed and the Champion too.

Champion of Gehenna

When attached to a friendly unit engaged in combat, the Champion of Gehenna may increase one of that unit’s stat values (except for W) by 1 until the end of the cycle. The safest and most common option is increasing Weapon Skill (to hit better), Strength (to wound better) or Attacks (to add more dice to the pool of attacks).

However, another interesting way to use this ability is increasing the Leadership to have a higher chance for a successful prayer – then you could, for example, pray for Fortune and re-roll all failed scores in the WS Test. Some players prefer one roll with a higher chance, while some prefer to have a chance to repeat the roll. It is your call but remember – in the case of a +1 to LD, you still need to pass the Prayer Test, while +1 to WS, S or A is a simple bonus that does not require any further tests.

Champion of Gehenna seems like a good choice for most Sheol-morg units. Use him to boost units with average stats, for example WS 3, to increase it to 4. Think twice if you want to support the units like Black Knights on Horgars – this unit already has a high chance to pray, hit and wound successfully. Sure, you could improve it even more, but always think if it is worth putting all eggs in one basket.

Champion of Hordes

When attached to a friendly unit engaged in combat, the Champion of Hordes allows that unit to re-roll all failed scores in the Weapon Skill Test if it’s a Horde, or to gain/regain the Horde rule if it’s not a Horde. This is an incredibly versatile Champion who will be a great support for any Sheol-morg unit, regardless of its power or a number of bases.

Attach this Champion to a Horde and you will get the same effect as if you successfully prayed for Fortune (the prayer for Fortune allows the unit to re-roll all failed scores in the Weapon Skill Test) – if that unit has a nice LD value of 7 or more, it can also pray for Fortune to double the re-roll in the Weapon Skill Test or pray for something else. Attach this Champion to a non-Horde unit and you may obtain a Horde rule, cancelling the charge bonuses of the enemy – some of the best units for that purpose would be smaller units of Horned Warriors and Black Knights on Horgars which have even higher chances for survival with their Heavy Armour rule (armour save on 2 or less), as well as Hybrids who get more attack dice to the pool thanks to the Spasms rule when they are a Horde.

Hello everyone! There was an announcement shared lately regarding the new stuff for Argatoria. We are bringing another bunch of interesting news about Argatoria for you. A lot is changing – we are developing new models, which you can see on our social media, as well as on Argatoria reddit (r/argatoria). We are working on the new rules for heroes and units, which means that Argatoria is expanding greatly.

We are currently finishing the English and German versions of the Argatoria Compendium. We want the Compendium to be available in all current language versions. This is a time-consuming process, but we are doing our best to deliver this extensive publication to your hands as soon as possible.

The Compendium collects together everything that has been created so far apart from the content of the core rulebook, including lore and the current rules for the Gaeldor and Sheol-morg armies, Mercenary Units, Legendary Heroes, as well as new units and heroes for the Lord Necromancer’s Sheol-morg army. It will also include all unpublished additions, such as new magic items, artefacts, magic banners and a large list of new spells. At the same time, together with the Compendium, we will bring you a PDF rulebook with all the fixes and updates included in all 3 languages.

Those of you who placed orders and received Mystery Boxes had a chance to receive Orc models in them. Thanks to the Mystery Boxes, you have a chance to receive pre-release models. We also encourage you to take part in our giveaways on Facebook and Instagram, as well as to subscribe to our free newsletter (at the bottom of the spellcrow.com homepage), where you can count on interesting coupons, offers, news and workshop updates.

Later this month, there will be an info about the planned release date of the Argatoria Compendium!

Now to the more regular stuff Today, you will learn about the tactics of the Liagulians and how to handle them in the Arox reptilian army.

The core unit of each Arox army are The Chosen, commonly known as Liagulians, warriors who always attack with two ranks instead of one thanks to their spears. Always consider having units of at least two ranks to benefit from this rule, but with their low cost of 9 pts/base, you can absolutely go for Hordes. If you field a Horde, always field the Champion of Gods as well and consider him their key support. They pray better thanks to the Faithful rule, so always pray with them to increase their chances in combat.

Although Liagulians feel much better in Hordes, you can also treat them as supplementary units, not core. If you choose this path, you can deploy them in single ranks, accepting the fact that they will not benefit from the Spear Storm rule and saving some points for more elite and skilled units. Having mentioned it, Liagulians are the cheapest 'bait' units you can have in your army, so one Horde accompanied by a few single ranks (or two-rank units if you want to use the Spear Storm rule) is probably the best way to go.

Avoid attacking units with armour or protection, especially the better one (granting a 2 or less save) – taking into account the lower than usual Weapon Skill 2 of the Liagulians, it is worth making sure that any successful hits and wounds they manage to get will result in immediate destruction of the enemy bases.

Looking forward to the rules for Xan'toag and Legendary Heroes for the other factions.

I'd assume that they'll all appear in the new Compendium book, which must be getting close.

For the time being, the rules of all previously released Legendary Heroes are available in their product photo gallery.

But yes, they will be collected together into the Compendium.

Hi everyone! On this Tactical Tuesday, we are taking a look at a devastating force of the Dirandis barbarian army — a cavalry of Riders on Gridons. 🌩 Besides, below the tactics, I included the links to a nice giveaway where you can win Forest Dragon or Hydra, according to your choice. The first creature can be fielded in the Gaeldor army, while the latter in the Sheol-morg army. You can join the giveaway on Instagram or Facebook.
__________

⚔️ Riders on Gridons Tactics ⚔️

Riders on Gridons will do extremely well in a Horde. Deploy them in a unit of 16 bases to take full advantage of their Fierce Assault rule which grants them +2 attacks for each full rank when charging. A horde of cavalry can be tricky to manouvre, as it is bigger than a regular infantry unit, so be careful when near terrain and try not to block their movement with your other units. A +1 to WS when charging increases their ability to absolutely devastate the enemy units. However, both rules that the Riders have are active during a charge only – it means that you must do everything in your power to charge the enemy first and avoid being charged, especially by more numerous units, because you will stuck.

A Horde of Riders on Gridons should naturally target numerous enemy units instead of those with one or two ranks (unless there is no major threat nearby and this is just a good occasion to score some Blood Points for your army). You should use the Marauder unit deployed thanks to the 16-base Horde to charge the enemy units and position them in a way that your Horde of Riders on Gridons will be able to assault the enemy's flank or even rear. A good cooperation between the Marauder unit and the Horde can lower the risk of a failed charge or other unfortunate events and bring your Dirandis army closer to the victory.

A Horde of Riders on Gridons should always pray. Their LD 6 is not so impressive, but – as Elite Units in a Dirandis army – they have a re-roll of the failed Prayer Test thanks to the army special rule. Most often, they will pray to re-roll failed hits (Fortune), but there will be situations in the game, where they might need to boost their move or charge rate (Agility) instead. Riders on Gridons do not necessarily need a Champion attached to them, but you can attach one of the Champions anyway if there is no other friendly unit in bigger need.

Hi folks

Welcome in the March 2025 Wrap-Up & News! We are getting close to the end of the 1st quarter of 2025, so let’s take a quick look at the previous release plans and what happened in the meantime.

All the announced units for the Lord Necromancer’s Sheol-morg army have been successfully released. The Legendary Heroes for the Arox and Sheol-morg armies are ready to join great battles of Argatoria. Xan’toag, the hero of the Arox tribe, premiered on March 14th and he will be followed by Myrnos, the hero of the Sheol-morg army under the command of the Lord of Sheol-morg, who will be released on Friday, March 28th.

Now, it is the time for the likely most anticipated update – the Argatoria Compendium!

Many of you would really love to see the rules of the upcoming Orcs army in the announced Argatoria Compendium. After giving it a thought, we decided that it will be indeed better for the game. Thus, in the end, Argatoria Compendium will contain the lore along with the full army list of the Orcs, and it will premiere in the Argatoria Orcs Kickstarter campaign. Due to the changes and time-consuming preparations, the campaign has been postponed – it is set to launch in May 2025. The pre-launch page will be ready at the end of March or the beginning of April.

Argatoria Compendium, as we briefly mentioned before, will not only collect the content from Issue 2 and Issue 3 of Purple Warlock magazine, but also introduce a lot of new stuff. The section with terrain rules has been improved and slightly enlarged – because of that, you will be able to get amazing new terrain pieces for Argatoria in the same KS campaign!

We have also acknowledged that there will be more magic banners. Now, we can also tell you that, among them, you will find army banners and such that will allow you to field special units. But it’s not all. Thanks to some of the banners, you might be able to change the organisation of your army roster!

The next exciting news & updates regarding the Argatoria Orcs KS campaign and the Argatoria Compendium shortly!

Now, let's smoothly switch to this week's Tactical Tuesday which focuses on Forgon – a single model for the reptilian armies of Arox and Sorgax. What's his likely best use in battle? You will learn just now.

The Forgon's ability forces the Panic Tests – it will be useless against the enemy units and single models with Fearless. Therefore, it is important to deploy a Forgon reasonably. The ability's range is not that large (20 cm), making the Forgon very vulnerable to the enemy charges. The greatest advantage of the Living Catapult ability is that it can be activated once per cycle, at any point, so even during the opponent's actions – it does not specifically require removing a Forgon's Action Die or taking a particular action with it. It also does not require a clear path, meaning the target can be behind another unit or even completely obscured by terrain – the only condition is that the target cannot be engaged in combat.

All this makes the Forgon an ideal threat to the enemy units charging at the other Arox units or the Forgon itself. Keep the Forgon slightly behind your other units. When the enemy unit declares the charge and start moving toward the charge target, stop it in place once it's within 20 cm of the Forgon before it reaches the base contact. If you successfully activate the Living Catapult ability, the opponent may lose even up to 3 bases and potentially lose contact with the attached hero if there was one!

Avoid using the Living Catapult against the enemy units that are within 5 cm of their Command Groups, as they will re-roll the failed Panic Tests, decreasing the effectiveness of this ability. Remember that the Forgon with its 5 Wounds is likely to die quickly if the enemy charges it, so plan out its movement carefully. Another option, however, is to use it as a bait and a blocker for the larger enemy units – it will cost you only 1 Blood Point anyway if the Forgon dies, but you may gain significant tactical advantage.

Hello!

Today, I'm bringing the latest tactics shared as a part of Tactical Tuesday.

The first tactics describe how to use the Trygodrons, a feral cavalry unit from the Arox reptilian army, while the second unveils the secret of fighting battles with the Hybrids from the Sheol-morg army.

There's a special discount for Hybrids and Hybrids Full Unit at https://www.spellcrow.com/ only for 36 hours from now!

The Arox army is proud of its mighty cavalry that tears the enemies apart. Charges of the Trygodrons can be devastating, as their Weapon Skill increases from 2 to 4 plus they are incredibly strong. Thanks to their better Mobility, they are potentially dangerous to the enemy one-rank units deployed on the flanks, or any other enemies who separated from the rest of the army.

Trygodrons should secure the flanks and not let the small enemy units distract your main forces. The best case scenario is when the Trygodrons' target is less numerous and has Toughness 3 or lower to allow you to add 3 or more dice to the Wound Test for the difference between its Toughness and the Trygodrons' Strength of 6 when charging.

A single rank of Trygodrons might have a hard time attempting to destroy an enemy single rank, as it depends on their roll and how many 1s they get in the WS Test. With only 10 dice during a charge, 8 of which are necessary to defeat the enemy, you will need a lot of luck. Therefore, consider deploying at least a two-rank unit to add more dice to the attack pool. Optionally, you can attach a Champion to add further 4 dice.

Hybrids are a truly powerful force in the Sheol-morg army thanks to their Spasms rule which grants them bonus attacks before combat. The unit size may vary from one rank to a Horde – this is up to you to decide. You can make the Hybrids an additional support in a form of two one-rank or two-rank units that will weaken the big enemy units, or decide that they will be one of your crucial strike forces and field them as a Horde.

If you field them as a Horde, standard charge (or fight) bonuses and the bonuses from the Spasms will combine and surely bring havoc in the enemy ranks. With Strength 5, Hybrids are capable of devastating the opponent even when they are not charging, but still, you have to remember about their average Weapon Skill 3. Attach the Champion of Gehenna to the Hybrids to increase their Weapon Skill from 3 to 4 and give them further +4 attacks for the attached Champion. If you field a non-Horde unit of Hybrids, you may also consider attaching the Champion of Hordes to them in order to test his ability and potentially make them gain the Horde rule – it will give them more bonus attacks from the Spasms.

Regardless whether your Hybrids unit is a Horde or not, feel free to target bigger enemy units, especially Hordes, as the number of attacks the Hybrids are able to generate allows them to significantly weaken more numerous foes. The cancellation of charge bonuses from charging at a Horde (in case Hybrids that are not a Horde charged at a Horde) will not affect their bonus attacks from the Spasms, so they are still able to deal a lot of damage. A nice target for the Hybrids are cavalry units and other with more than 2 Wounds per base. If you roll a high score on a d6 for the Spasms, they might easily swipe a one rank of cavalry off the table.

Hi folks!

Here's a bunch of news regarding the army of Orcs – Er'Sael – coming soon on Kickstarter.

First of all, the contents of the Er'Sael Army Starter have been revealed! You can see them all in the photo above.

Your adventure with Er'Sael will begin with:

3 ranks of Orcs Warriors called The Fangs – Basic Unit
3 ranks of Orcs Rogues – Elite Unit
2 ranks of Nerh, the Black Orcs – Rare Unit
1 rank of Priests of Sael – Unique Unit
1 Orcs Warriors Command Group set

Follow Spellcrow profile on Kickstarter to get notified when the pre-launch page for the Er'Sael army is up: https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/spellcrow

The Er'Sael army has a unique predisposition for magic. It is reflected not only in the army special rule, but also some of the particular units. The Priests of Sael (on the left) deserve special attention – it is, without question, one of the best units in the army, not only in terms of combat effectiveness and statline, but also their extreme devotion which supports them greatly when praying. The Priests of Sael, unlike other infantry units, are placed on 25 mm square bases because of their muscularity and flowing cloaks.

Here's also the first preview of the Legendary Orc Hero (on the right) for the army. This mysterious mage hiding his face behind a reptile mask will premiere in Argatoria Compendium on Kickstarter along with the whole clan!
