Neat, maybe they'll use those
Spoiler:
Necrons
they mentioned in the SM2 campaign towards the end.

Or maybe return to Orks as a tribute to the first game?

Maybe they can use this time to try and make a not so thoroughly mediocre game.

Agree to disagree; I think SM2 is an improvement on SM1 in every conceivable way except for accessibility for players unfamiliar with parries or possessed of slow reaction times. I was one of the former folks and I picked it up, but it's such a vital mechanic that it's inescapable.

The thing about 40k is that no one person can grasp the fullness of it.

Yeah, SM2 is absolutely one of my favorite games of recent years. I've put an absurd amount of time into it simply because the core gameplay loop is a blast.

I enjoyed SM2, my main concern was that the single player campaign felt really short, and didn’t feel it had much replayability.

Orks, Necrons or the casts of Spongebob and Hello Kitty, I don't care about Xenos. Please, PLEASE, let us fight Slaanesh this time; she needs to show up more on consoles past a Blood Bowl II loading screen mention.

They need to hire the design team from Boltgun to help them with the weapons.

That and hire the Gabriel Angelo's and Thule's voice actors from Dawn of War II: Brian Dobson & Fred Tatasciore.

Half of the campaign is definitely in the multiplayer, which is well worth a playthrough with randos or bots. It's essentially just more single player levels that you play with your custom character instead of Titus. Lots of unique bosses and varied playstyles make it a more replayable experience as well. I'm in no way a multiplayer guy, but I've put a ton of time into this one just because I enjoy the gameplay.

Hopefully they don't do the "xenos at the start chaos at the end" narrative again. I think I and II were a lot of fun I just think we're due for a change as far as the storytelling pattern goes.

Well they essentially do that to juxtapose a horde threat and a heavy duty threat.

I'd suggest Xenos faction then Chaos faction is sort of a necessity for those non-Warhammer types so they get an idea of the universe.

Necrons would be fun to play against but it's maybe less opportunity for melee combat.

Really I'd like far more from SM2 before we get to the third game.

More importantly I'd like a Battlefield/front game which is Guard Vs Traitor Guard vs GSC.

It would be fun to dice up Orks again.

One thing they keep learning is the game is most fun when faced against melee swarms and gets less fun when the opposing army turns it into more of a traditional shooter. I suspect there's a lot of concern over that with things like Necrons.

Truthfully though, almost every major 40k videogame has a story of: "The Space Marines arrive to save [Planet] from a horde of [Xenos] that have nearly overrun the Imperial Guard. Along they way they learn that the attack is a Chaos plot and must battle a Daemon Prince to save the day. Afterwards the planet is destroyed."

I'm going to make a Kill Team out of Primaris Lieutenants.

We need at least 3 more primaris lieutenants.

Hopefully the new game will showcase the protagonists in gravis, terminator, and jump packs.

As much as I love options, we already have 3 phobos Lts. We don’t need one with a new hat.

(I’d love to see a more flexible datasheet for phobos Lts with different options you could mix and match, including a cloak, but that’s not really how GW is rolling these days)

If they're going to do tie-in models next time, maybe do the whole group of three this time...

But could they do that and restrain themselves from pricing them at an obscene level?

Like ~$60 like Calgar and his two buddies or a box of blade guard vets would be fine. But if they go “it’s 3 characters, and they are $40+ each normally, so think of the bargain we are giving you by selling them at $100”

Not that I need more Ultramarine officers, but I’d probably pick up a reasonably priced 3 pack.

It was like Titus and his board game. I bought a Space Marine character and some tyranids and got a free board game to with them.

Maybe make Kill Team based around them, that'd be pretty fun.

IMO it would be a fun subversion if they did Chaos at the start (cultists, plague zombies, etc) and then Xenos at the end.

I'd love to see the Leagues of Votann as an antagonist. It would be something different that no one would expect.

And expand the Votann into an army that people might actually want to play.

And you can start with them mining and then awaken a Necron Tomb World.

The big issue here is that SM gameplay sucks against ranged enemies and it already used the 2 predominantly melee horde antagonists.

So SM3 needs to heavily redesign gameplay so that it doesn't fall apart against Necrons.

I haven't played either Space Marine, so I can't say anything about implementation, but if you want melee Necrons, between Fayled Ones and the latest addition to Destroyers it should be trivial to come up with a loony tomb world that is close combat focused with a bit of ranged support. Throw in some constructs for added variety and you're good. You can make Necrons pretty melee heavy if you want to.

Well, without xenos the game would start with massacring hordes of normal humans (cultists, guard) in the most brutal fashion - that's not really appealing to the mass market.

So you've missed the Horus Heresy being a thing in the model world; and Borderlands and honestly MOST shooters that are focused on killing more humans and humaoids.

They could 100% do Marines VS Chaos as a the theme. Indeed they could lean into it heavily by doing 2 different Chaos forces in the core game then having 2 expansions that add in mini-campaigns and content for 2 more chaos gods.
