This may literally be the dumbest question I've ever asked, but here goes.

Do Tyranid models with the Keyword: Synapse (not the Faction: Synapse) grant the benefits of Synapse to themselves?

The rule is just worded so damn poorly, or my "reading is fundamental" brain-section has failed.

It's been that way in every previous version that I've played, but I've been out of the game for a while and was hoping to put together some Tyranid lists. Trying to focus on keeping everything in Synapse range, or just fielding nothing but monsters with the Keyword (Gojira List!).

For reference, the Keyword rule is:

If your Army Faction is TYRANIDS, while a TYRANIDS unit from your army is within 6" of one or more friendly SYNAPSE models, that TYRANIDS unit is said to be within Synapse Range of that model and of your army. While a TYRANIDS unit from your army is within Synapse Range of your army:
--Each time that unit takes a Battle-shock test, take that test on 3D6 instead of 2D6.
--Each time a model in that unit makes a melee attack, add 1 to the Strength characteristic of that attack.

The way that's worded could be interpreted that a model with the Keyword would still have to be "within 6" of one ore more friendly..."

Couldn't find it in the FAQ or Clarifications or Balance Datasheet, or a search on this board for Synapse, so I guess I'll look like a dumb-ass and just ask.

A model is always within range of itself, so yes.

I assumed that was the case, but you know what they say about assumptions.

Thank you. Appreciate the confirmation.

Yeah a rule will say something like "another friendly unit" if it can't count itself. If there's no such stipulation then it works.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Yeah. Basically think of Synapse units as wifi devices, and non-synapse units are various phones that want to use said wifi.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Like I said, probably a stupid question. The way GW writes stuff sometimes, though, makes a guy wonder. I mean, couldn't it have been worded clearly? "Models with the KEYWORD: SYNAPSE and any friendly TYRANID units within 6" of models with that KEYWORD..."

I dunno. I deal with this crap at work all the time, where things are written to be purposely vague, so as to cover .mgmt's asses. Probably just that part of my brain flaring up.
