Hi all, not been in the site for....oooh...ages but my chums and I have recently gotten back into 40K 5th edition (the gentleman's edition 😁) and more particularly Apocalypse. I was wondering if there is much in the way of 5th edition happening on here; army lists, batreps etc. Anyone know if that's the case? Much obliged for any pointers and glad to be back.
Regards,
Jimbob

First of all, welcome back to Dakka Dakka!

Second, great to see I am not alone in focusing on earlier editions of 40k (4th ed. and 5th ed.).

I would be really interested in your groups approach to base sizes with the updated kits. Over here it was always fine to go larger but not smaller. (e.g., in 4th ed. a bolter marine was on a 25mm, the player can choose to use either 25mm bases or 32mm bases as they like).

Hi Amblard, thanks for the response. To n.be honest base size isn't something we worry too much about; I think the only change if it is a change is that we tend to base terminators (and maybe some characters) on 32mm bases, otherwise it's 25mm bases for individual 28mm figures.
Do you get much 4th and 5th edition games in your neck of the woods then?

Yes, a group of friends and I have stuck primarily to the older editions. 3rd was the edition when I got started, and 4th and 5th were editions of heavy gaming for our group. 6th ed. was good depending on the list one was running, but some lists suffered as things went along. (Flying landraiders and other shenanigans).

The main change I recall was when fliers were introduced, we were always good with the hand full of Forge World flyers doing good ol' strafing runs, and super heavies and units from Forge World as they were gems and rare opponents. But as flyers and super heavies became more and more common, the game changed (at least my, and a few others perspective).

I remember the Chicago Games Day when they introduced Apocalypse, and a few of us knew with the introduction of larger and larger individual units and tanks the game was going to develop in a different way. -- Different is not bad, just not what I was looking for.

I do have an army list put together for later editions, but simply 4th-5th are our editions of choice as it is what many of us know (mainly due to the average age of our group).
