Woe beith to me! I have around four Bloodbowl Teams built (Bretonnia, Tomb Kings, Lizardmen, and now Skaven). But I just can't get myself around to painting them!

For context, I do have somewhat experience in painting models for Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar. Plus I have painted various terrain pieces for Kill Team.

Sadly, I cannot for the life of me sit down and paint my teams. I think it's all the padding and armor, that or they're smaller than my usual type of models (Orks, Necrons, Stormcast, Seraphon, and Soulblight).

I've gotten to roughly paint half of my lizardmen, but every other team I can't get past the painting phase. My Skaven and Tomb Kings are as of right now unprimed.

Does anyone have any advice on how to paint Tomb Kings and Skaven? Their designs seem more intricate than normal. Do people generally look down on unpainted models in Bloodbowl?

It also could be Summer, I hate the heat, but I'm worried about running out of time to get them painted to draw the interest of my local gaming group and others who maybe interested in the game.

I would suggest getting their main colour down as a spray (bone? bandages? whatever the main colour is for you rats), giving it a drybrush and leaving it for now. its better than grey plastic and they will look like boardgame pieces, so you are half way there. Basic basing to match the pitch would be good as well.

I generally just prime in Rustoluem that I find at Walmart. But then they just all remain black and I can't sit down and paint them. I'd figure that they would be easier to spot out what position they are if they're left gray instead of painting black like my Bretonnians are atm.

For the Tomb Kings they came in a tan plastic color so I'd figure I would keep them like that until I have a color scheme in mind and/or the art skill to do all their tiny details.

Skaven: prime dark brown. Dry brush lighter brown fur. Paint armor one solid color.

Tomb Kings: Prime black. Dry brush bone color for bandages and bone.

In general, no. Blood Bowlers don't mind unpainted stuff. Be sure to make the player's number clear if you're doing a league. I like silver sharpie on the base.

This might be a really good case for a zenithal prime and some speed paints or contrast.

This is the way. 15minutes per model and done.

It's what I'm doing for Mordheim, due to the same issues on the OP.
Spray the models black all over, then off-white from above. Highlight everything with a bit of white.
Slap the main Contrast skin or costume colour all over the model.
Then use normal paints for the armour, items, etc

But, since teams are not going to be played together, paint each one in a different style in you want.
The only times teams mix are for the Alliance teams, or Dungeon Bowl.

Yes, here is what I do. Go to the local Big Box retailer and buy a can of spray primer, a box of cheap acrylic craft paints, a cheap plastic palette, variety pack of paint brushes, a satin spray enamel from that Big Box retailer.

First, I spray prime with rustoleum light grey on the minis. Then, if you want to get crazy, dry brush them with the cheap acrylic white. This will allow you to see the details.

Then, paint the models using the cheap acyrlics paints that are watered down about 5-10 drops of water to one drop of paint to taste.

Once all the models have their base coats on (including painting the bases) and dried, grab some black or sepia (brown) paint and water it down until it is basically colored water. Then, brush that over the entire model. Let them sit over night again to dry.

Once they have dried, hit them with the Satin spary enamel. Done.

It will take you 1 weekend (Maybe 3-days) to complete your entire team and you have spent about $30-50 in supplies. About the cost of a set of good mini-paints.
