I have a new (to me) cypher mini coming soon, from 3rd edition, metal and whatnot. I was thinking about putting together a fallen angels squad to go with him as well.

I know ultimately the answer is "use what you want", but I wanted to know what other people either have used in the past, or what you might do.

So far I have three ideas, I could try using some rogue trader RTB01 space marines as "fallen" marines, or i could try using some 3rd edition tactical space marines to use, or I could use some other era-appropriate chaos space marines as the fallen, or a mix of each of them.

I wanted to get some opinions on my choices, or hear what other people may have done with their own cypher in the past.

EDIT: How about, even if you haven't made a fallen angels squad, what would YOU do if you were to make one? I am seriously asking because while I have some ideas about what I might do i'm not really sure what I actually want to do so i'm looking for ideas.

I would suggest looking round 3D print sites, there usually are lots of 'not marines' wearing intricate styles of armour. Also keep an eye on Ebay for old citadel metal marines, to be honest GW have never made much specific DA figures but there are some good things like Chaplains and Librarians floating around.

I used the 6 of the guys in the upper right with a mix of Marine & simple CSM pauldrons, plus a couple old CSM backpacks, to show their need to replace over time, similar to the Wulfen of 3rd ed.
I used the old Ravenwing biker Flamer arm for a specialist.
The old CSM arms with the glove hands (maybe Berserker?), and older versions of bolters were part of my Fallen.
They've since moved on from me and I have no pics.
I painted them with black armor & cream robes and no Chapter/Legion insignias.

If the plastic Dark Angel Veterans are still available or reasonably priced on ebay, I would use them as a base.

The converted Fallen Angels featured in the issue of White Dwarf when Cypher was released used the metal robed Dark Angels with Chaos arms/shoulders.
