A couple of us were discussing making gorijja armies and we couldn't decide on what to take for our troop choices. We've more or less sorted out the rest of the list (flyrant, walkrant, 2 dakkafexes, lictor, 3 raveners, 2 gunfexes and 2 zoes) so what do people who have used the gorijja lists find that works for them? At the moment we're thinking either stealers to hide behind TMC wall, spinegaunts/termagants for cheap fodder and get in the way of any assaults, OR take hormagaunts and throw them forward to tie up shooty units. So what say you!!

Spinegaunts or stealers....or a mix of both.
With the stealers you could actually make take 2 shooty tyrants which could be cool.
I always ran the winged CC tyrant so I was fine ith gaunts as 3 ravs and the winged tyrant generally was enough CC. That said I found games somewhat easier once I started using stealers as CC was much less of a threat.
Personally I would like to try out 2 shooty walking tyrants (VC/DEV + 1 guard each) and stealers in the back.
Nothing stands up to stealers in CC.

Stealers are death on wheels to most enemies.
Might want to throw a spinegaunt unit or two in, just for occasional sacrificial use, or objective grabbing.

What point level are you playing at that you're only taking 2 Zoanthropes instead of 3? Also, I don't think a Lictor is worth it even to help out against Escalation.
He's 80 points and for a mere 33 points more you could have a third Dakkafex.
As for troops choices, Stealers and small Spinegaunt units are the way to go (as everyone else has said).

I was considering a lictor myself in the beggining but in the end I just figured that taking another fex which is better inmost of the games in the first place would be better, sure you might want to reroll a winged tyrant or a sniperfex rather than a dakka/devilfex but with the devilfexs range you need them on the table asap.
Taking another elite fex is just like using said reroll to get one of those elite fexs onto the table faster.
Sure its not the same but considering the elite fexs do a considerable amount of the damage your zilla nids will do with shooting leaving one out is costely indeed.
2 units of stealers and a unit of spines should do the trick in most lists.
I have yet to use both but I see a reason to do so.

Points are 1500pts. Im not sold on scream though which is why only 2 zoes. I guess 3 could be worth a go. Good point on the lictor re-roll. The reason i have that is for the re-roll and the ability to reach out and hit stuff like crisis suits and indirect ordnance. The problem is where to get the points from for the other dakka fex. Are guard really worth it on the walking tyrant?? Dont have enough points really to take spinegaunts and genestealers if i take 3 zoes and 3 dakkafexes.

Atleast 1 guard is worth it as the tyrant is a bigger target than the fexs. Also since the tyrant is normally armed with VC/ Dev it will be moving towards the enemy so will be less likely to be in cover like the sniperfexs. Crisis and indirect is hardly as dangerous as one might originally think, crisis are not strong enough to do alot of damange and the ordnance has the same problem though it does on occasion stop you from making walls. (though 1 such tank would hardly make me change my plan esp if I am in cover) As far as taking Zoans goes with the instakill rule now in effect due to the new faq (still need to call the designers and ask them what they where smoking when they came up with this......and where I can get some.....) So these days the warp blast/scream is hardly the easy choice, you might just want to go with something like scream/synapse if you need synapse or scream/catalyst or mess around with the other lame powers and keep the zoans hidden. That said I think we will just see alot more 8 MC lists now that the zoans took a hit, still it is nice to have those warp blasts incase you get close enough to shoot at tanks or there is a isntakillable Demon Prince around. They are still the only non scoring parts of the list, another reason not to take the lictor (godZirra is already low in scoring units) so them dieing before the game is done is not too painful. I dunno longshot, imo if you want a winged shooty tyrant I would go with the field though, that 1 extra scream is rarely that critical nor is it likely to be in the same place as all the others esp if you are running around with a 3+ save. Personally I kept going back and forth on the 2+ save on the winged tyrant, half the time tyrant is hidden untill it gets into CC so it makes little difference, other times the opponent has alot of rocket dev squads or the equivelent and the winged 2+ tyrant can just fly right on up, forcing them to fail target priority and being forced to shoot rockets on his 2+ armour is even better! I imagine Vsurma's opponents say that a lot
Yea....they all hate me There are a few that don't mind, IW (well a few of them did mind after I instakilled a few oblits), ulthwe, my mates eldar, the assualt cannon armies (but they all lose in the end), Well played BAs (though I have yet to lose to one of these) But overall you end up with alot of fairer armies against you and only play the tougher ones at the very end of the tournies. I will have to consider taking a 3rd fex inplace of the Zoans now though since hte zoans can be instakilled, the funny thing about the psychic choir is that I never need it when I run it, and always run into ulthwe council of doom when I get rid of the choir! It's a hard life.... Might get me another fex model and another walking tyrant. What I want to try is: Tyrant, +1 bs, +1 str, devourer and VC, psychic scream, 1 x tyrant guard Tyrant, +1 bs, +1 str, devourer and VC, psychic scream, 1 x tyrant guard Devilfex (that is what I call them!) Devilfex Devilfex 6 stealers 6 stealers Ravaner (MVPs of soooo many games, did I tell you about the time the 3 killed 2 terminator squads and a librarian?) Ravaner (or the time 1 took out a lemun russ.....then immobilized and took out the gun off another....in 1 game!) Ravaner (or the time 1 ravaner killed a 2+ invul save biker lord in CC (no invul) to stop his entire demon bomb?) Devilfex Sniperfex ( bs, vc,es,chitin,fh) Sniperfex ( bs, vc,es,chitin) 1500pts even once I dropped the SBs off the HS fexs and dropped the flesh hooks from the elite and heavy fexs, 1 HS fex still has them incase there is apropriete terrain. It is the most shooty list I have come up with but 12 stealers and 2 walking tyrants still pack some cc punch. Problem with my dipped nids is that even though its fast to do, you really don't want to be messing around with the varnish all the time, generally I do alot at a time, all of my 6500pts of tyranids have been done in 2 large dipping sessions and 1 smaller one. Would have to get everything I think I will need for a long time before I find the motivation to get out the varnish again. Hmm broodlord, more ravs, more MCs..... Some day though

Fallen Angel likes the zoey since i told him the choir will make MEQ-fists not able to charge your flyrant if you get them to fail their Horror. (lol) i do kinda like the idea of dropping them for another fex... but a big one or a little one? how's this: flyrant, wings, toxin sacs, WS and Init glands, implant attack, 2x scytals, fhooks, scream - 188 gun tyrant, twin devs, venom cannon, +1BS, +1S, scream, (159) 1 guard (45) dakkafex - 113 dakkafex - 113 dakkafex - 113 6 stealers - 96 65 pts worth of cheap gaunts ravenor - 40 ravenor - 40 ravenor - 40 gunfex - 163 gunfex - 163 gunfex - 163

Vsurma: Broodlord? What are you thinking man?
I played one for 4+ games, trying to figure out how to use him. The Broodlord only saw combat once, and that was in turn 6. And only due to my opponent wanting to get off one last ML shot from his scouts.
Maybe in cityfight, with sewer rats and a sewer marker in 4+ cover...

I was just talking about dipping one.....because I may aswell dip all the models at once. I actually won a small tournament using a broodlord As long as you can infiltrate its ok, I took 2 wounds on the broodlord which kept 2 stealers alive, it seemed to work with my carapace stealers, shooty warriors ( tl devs + bs) + 2 sniperfexs list. Course I knew infiltrate would be in all 3 games so that helped.

Ive been running this list recently:
1 Tyrant Vc/TLDv 3 Tyrant guard 3 Gunfexes 3 Dakkafexes 3 x12 armored stealers
And I have to say that the stealers have won me the game almost every time. As long as I can keep them behind the MCs, my opponent only gets at most one turn of firing on them. And thats after several turns of being shot at by the big guys. I usually dont get too many non-vehicle kills from shooting, it just doesnt have the AP.

You know, I saw that list that had a "heavy support" Dakkafex in it, and that seems like an idea. I'm not entirely sure that 3 Gunfex are really needed, so perhaps another Dakkafex, but perhaps beefier, or possibly VC + Devourers. Something to consider

Yea well I already had 2 sniperfexs(gun) and 2 walking tyrants with VCs and guard so that seemed enough.
No huge point in making it too much tougher though as I don't normally run my elite fexs on their own and all that will happen with 1 tougher version is that it gets shot last, if you wanted to have so fun you could give it 5 wounds and regen and run it up front (though most of the time they are all at the front) this way if the enemy fails target priority you take the wounds on the 5 wound fex and once its down to 1-2 wounds you can move it behind the other fexs and wait for it to regen a wound.

Depending on if you're looking to just dump a certain amount of points, and are tired of painting gaunts, you might try ripper bases.
Yes, they can't take corners. No, they're not that great if someone's chucking templates. But, in a 1500 "for fun" CoD game I played last weekend where I just pulled random crap off my shelves, a 50 point unit of rippers actually ended up munching their way through 1 and a half 6 man tac squads, so I was remarkably pleased with how they came out of it, and I'm considering tweaking my main zilla list to be 1 sq. of 8 spinegaunts, 1 sq. of 4-5 ripper bases, and then 2 squads of 8 stealers each with EC and flesh hooks.

The lack of fleet means they are tactically less viable imo.

Vsurma: I think the lack of fleet makes them less tacticall viable IMHO Open field, I think that's a yes and no question: They don't fleet, but depending on how you move your forces, especially if the rippers are only a part of your troops block, they can get screened until they can drop 16-20 attacks into their charge, or simply be ignored by the other player because when faced with a 'zilla list, most people seem to get a case of "Shoot the big ones!" and ignore a lot of smaller units like gaunts and rippers until the Tyrants and 'fexes are down. But, in CoD games, the rippers are in the same situation as almost every other unit, even fleeting ones, because of DT tests or limited mobility, so fleet isn't so much of an advantage. It's not too hard to keep them behind cover until you can set up the zerging, and cherrypick out a few units in building or street assaults. Plus, you'll almost always be improving their save to the 4+ cover save rather than their normal 6+ armor.

Non scoring, less attacks on the charge (than spinegaunts), no gun. I don't see the point.
Sure they don't need synapse, but all zilla lists take 2 tyrants anyway, giving the enemy another reason to shoot at the guard is generally a good thing.

Leaping rippers are better than fleeting spinegaunts for tarpitting, as long as no one drops a template on them. A leaping ripper base is cheaper than 3 spinegaunts for equal wounds, and the ripper base keeps getting 3 attacks even when 2 wounds are on it...I've never regretted fielding Rippers.
Sure they can't hold objectives, but their purpose is to lock shooty units quickly, and die slowly.
Plus they're a *lot* easier to move around than 3x that many Spinegaunts when you've got a time limit. Though I suppose that's not so much of a concern in Godzilla lists.

Yeah, that may be the case. However, leaping rippers can't hold an objective. Keeping attacks doesn't matter on a tarpit unit (they won't really do that much damage) Genestealers can kill things, and can be hidden by MCs.
Both are better choices for those reasons.

a unit of 3-4 rippers will have a much harder time locking that deathcompany in place than 8 gaunts, max coherency on the gaunts and your golden.
Still, feel free to try them, I just feel that the scoring and the fleeting abilities are needed, the guns arent bad either as I normally kept my gaunts back untill the enemy was close so normally they would get to shoot then assualt.
The ravaners do the fast assualting.
