VERITAS NUMQUAM PERIT

hi,

I am busy working on the back-story for my chapter.
Questions:

How long does the AVERAGE marine live? (death in combat withstanding)
How long does the SUPER marine live? (death in combat withstanding)

I ask becaue there are some references to Inquisitors (who from my understanding are not SM and dont have the implants, gene-seed or anything) yet they can live for up to 500 years or more.  Would this mean that some SM - especially guys like Librarians, Force Commanders, Champions, Chapter Masters, Chaplains can live for a couple Millenia?

The Hammer

A lot of those really old Inquisitors I think would be Radicals with Daemonswords - if Daemonswords were real and any ordinary human owned one, they'd be able to live for a long, long time.

I'm honestly not sure about Marines - a few centuries sounds about right, except when Daemons are involved, i.e. Chaos Marines who just reincarnate to fight for their God indefinitely. I suspect that even with no recruitment the original Relictors will be kicking around for at least a millenium between their implants and Daemon Weapons.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

Still trying to operate tape cassettes

Logan Grimnar is 500 years old, Dante is over a thousand. In the HH, it's stated that they could potentially live forever, and alll Space Marines are fated to die only in combat. However, seeings as the only SM's still allive from the Crusade/Heresy are either preserved by the Warp, or are Dreadnoughts, I'd be pretty happy to dismiss this presumption. I think that any average you get for Marine lifespans is going to be affected mostly combat attrition, and anybody can get shot at any time, so an 'average' is just a statement of how long they survive, not how long they live.
The characters you've mentioned might not necesarily be the oldest, either. A Chapter is a meritocracy, so the oldest warrior in a chapter could be a standard tactical marine, whilst a Librarian is inducted fairly early into his career as a marine.
