i'm still trying out different & new stuff since the new codex came out & haven't tried marker drones yet are they worth the 30 points each?

They're usually only viable in a Stealth team dedicated to getting marker shots out of them. That way, they benefit from the Stealth Field Generators and can Infiltrate if it's allowed in the mission.

Crisis teams need to stay mobile, no use for a drone with a Heavy weapon.
Fire Warriors should usually be kept to a minimum, and giving them a Marker Drone will probably just feed your opponent VPs.

One experiment that might be worth it in casual gaming is giving a couple to an Ethereal and have him stand on a hill behind them. But usually you'll want to take an Ethereal in a FoF army or something similar where he can affect the most things.

So, in general, no. But if you feel up to dedicating an Elite spot to a Stealth Marker Team (read: bad idea*), go for it.

*A much better use for said Elite slot is a pair of Fireknives, or a mobile Stealth unit.

The most effective way I have found is to put two with a broadside who will be at max distance anyway. Use them to mark for the Broadside or other units. That way you have the advantage of the 36 range and a couple of alblative wounds for the Broadside. Also always deploy in hard cover which almost makes them as good as shield drones.

1 more dumb question can i take it as a vehicle upgrade? i mean you can take drones w/ a devilfish ? wouldn't that be cool w/pathfinders?

or is that just to many points in 1 slot?

Marker drones on a devilfish would make me all happy inside. jeez. SMS/Markerfish would be great. Then people'd have to shoot them

I would love the option of swapping out the Fish's gun drones for marker drones. Sadly, it's not currently an option. Maybe a few years down the road, in the next edition *hinthintnudgenudge*

would the pathfinder shas'ui taking a marker drone be overkill ? i mean the way i field them they're over priced anyway.

No, adding a Marker Drone to a Pathfinder squad increases your points per markerlight hit.

Bad for efficienct, and if you've got 12 possible 'Finders you should have plenty of markerlights.

I've played Tau since they came out and have never used markerlights or marker drones. I'm not saying they aren't useful, just that I've never really needed them since with the new codex you can give certain choices the Targetting Array for an extra 10pts per model.

This I think outweighs the marker becuase the unit equipped with the T.A. will always hit with an extra Balistic skill and isn't relying on a marker.

Hope this helps
