Another 5 man scout squad with nothing but sniper rifles is all I can think of. I was going to suggest a Whirlwind but all your Heavy Support slots are filled up...

Generations have suffered with the same devotion that we can offer but once. Still, our Faith leads us through these dark times like a beacon. It will guide us to triumph over these abominations. Either by breaking them upon us like waves against a limitless, golden peak or by thrusting through them like the spear of the Immortal Emperor Himself." - Cannoness Aoife, Order of the desert rose #Yesallwomen

I do need some more anti-infantry i think... and for reasons of durability i wish to keep the squads even numbered.

If you are going the "SM Shooty" way there is no real use for the master comander with Lightning Claws....you may equip him for shooting (combi-melta, combi-plasma, storm bolter, etc) or exchenge him for a second librarian....

An about your remaining 90 points you can get a little command squad for the librarian... even including a melta gun or two. Another solution is to get a fourth tornado and crate a squadron of two to fill one of the fast attack slots....

The master gives all your leaderless marines LD10, and provides some very decent anti-CC force. I'd keep him before I'd keep that pointless Librarian (no speed, crappy powers).

I would rather see another predator than the whirlwind, just to get up to 6 high armored vehicles. I also think, given your list, you ought to put twinlinked lascannons on those venerables, as they have no way to get in close to use their flamer/24" gun.

Edit: I goofed at slot counting, woops! It's way late.

Get the 3rd predator though, for sure.

Maybe score some assault marines for counter-assault?

90 Points?

That's 3 Drop Pods for your Dreads and you're done.

Hmmm but if i am just using the Dreads as speed bumps, is it worth the points shoving them in pods that will take a while to arrive?

I went with the whirlwind for flexibility originally...

I am reluctant to put my leaders in squads, would rather the enemy had to go out of their way to hunt down my commander while my marines shoot at him

If you swapped your Lascannon Sponsons on both Preds for Heavy Bolters, you would save yourself 30 points and still have anti-tank (in addition to anti-infantry as well). Now you have 120 points to spend. You could buy another Landspeeder Tornado (group them into pairs) and then use the remaining points on a basic Scout Squad.

Or, you could get a 5-man Assault Squad with Meltabombs to back up your Dreads. They'd also make decent anti-tank units, provided they're protected from enemy fire before they get close enough to pop the armor. If that's not your thing, just give them a pair of Plasma Pistols.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Awesome Autarch

I have run a similar army, and my advice yould be to ditch the vortex of doom, unless you are using it for laughs. it rarely works and is way overpriced. Fury of the ancients is a fantastic sit and shoot power and a total steal at only 3 points. taking two librarians with fury, in opposite corners of the board to fire them accross table will hit multiple units each, do a fair amount of damage but more importantly cause auto pin tests. against non fearless armies, and light vehicles it is awesome as it does not require LOS.

you have good anti infantry with the dreads and speeders. the only thing to keep in mind is that those three speeders cost nearly as much as a land raider. you could take two librarians in command squads with extra firepower, dual fury's and two apothecaries to add some resiliance to your shooty squads, and you could attach a bare bones commander with a storm bolter for the Ld bonus. Throw a vet sarge in those squads with a power fist and you have two, viable counter charge units.

Also, consider a HtH scout squad or an assault squad with no jump packs. these are cheap counter charge unit that can sit and absorb enemy assaults, they compliment shooty armies well in my experiance.

last, unless you really like the tanks, you may want to think about changing one of them for a dev squad. the dev squad is far more resialiant, has equal or greater fire power but is less mobile and more expensive. however, positioned well, they can be a huge asset to your list.

Hope that helps, good luck to you!

It looks like a good list - my personal preference is heavy bolter sponsons on Annihilators for something to fire on the move, and missile launchers in lieu of power fists on dreads for the same reason. It may work just as well to keep the dreads with powerfists and flamers for pseudo-counterassault- they still can't really deal with an expensive squad, but should be able to tie up a fair number of attackers. If you want give a tactical squad a powerfist, I would reccomend an additional two bolt gun marines as well.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.
