I wanted to do an army based around the Last Chancers as they appear in the codex.  The army would use the full 20 last chancer spots but I wasn't sure how to proceed with the army.  I was thinkig that they would mostly carry special weapons since it doesn't require a crew and infiltrating/drop trooping with these would be useful. Anybody have thoughts on how to proceed?

Also I wanted to build a full 1500 and 1850 list around this theme.  I was thinking since my core requirements are filled by the last chancers that I could use Storm troopers and ratlings for the elites.
A command squad would open up fire support teams and special wepon teams, plus give me another unit that can load up on specials.  All of them could drop troop or have light infantry to help with deployment.

Would it be useful to take regular platoons, conscripts or armoured fists in this kind of list?  I am thinking of using rough riders and sentinels as fast attack.  For heavy support I was leaning toward a couple of leman russes.

I'm trying to come up with a general plan of how to build this type of army and could use some help.

dropping plasma psykers with the occassional demo charge could be fun...

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

This is a friend of mine's last chancers list and he has beaten some really tough armies with it. He thinks it may be better than his ubber power gamer chaos list.

Hope it helps.

That's one tough list. Thanks for the tip, I'm gonna have to see how many heavy weapons I can scavenge from my bits box.

How about 20 psykers and a Culexus assassin for the hell of it?

22 S5 AP 1 shots. From a single model.

*loses 1 unit to assassin's shooting*

*shoots assassin*

Remember assassins aren't independant characters, they're just independant. Or maybe a krak missile from across the board if you aren't behind cover. ;-)

Oh I know, it's a stupid little gimmick. Also, each turn the Last Chancers would have to make a LD check at LD7 or fall back, but that one turn of shooting would be a glorious sight to behold.

Just a rough list  but it reeks of gorgonzola - don't think of it for friendly games as its the only cheese guard there really is barring Elysian and Flyers

I like the list felixcat I am just not sure why I would put 5 demo charges into Chimeras when they could be dropped (or infiltrate).

I might try that list and try to squeeze in some hellhounds...so much AV12.

Actually its one demo charge per unit and three plasmas ... just posted too fast but its one demo per subunit and one plasma for the subunits of the chancers. You do not need to drop in with everything ... the vet squads will do massive damage while the rest of the force and five chimeras w/ hbs and sentinels act like drive by killers ... although the full plasma squads could drop plus a wall of chimeras can essentially cut the board in half allowing you to fight half your opponents army with all of yours.
I'll edit for clarity

That makes sense. I like the list but I am disappointed that it doesn't actually include 10 demo charges. That might be more fun than the all psyker army with a callidus assassin.

The Hammer

Hmm, two Special Weapons Squads, four sub-units of one Last Chancer Specialist, three Cyclopses (they're one per FA slot?) and a specialist accompanying Shaeffer and Kage...can't say I haven't thought about it.

Culexus would be a great pick if you were playing a 2v2 game allied to Ulthwe...jog merrily along next to a Rhino, then count up those eight point Warlocks once you're inside assault distance...

When soldiers think, it's called routing.
