I am just wondering what kinds of music people like to play while playing wargames

Country. I find Necromunuda Slade's cover of The Rogal Dorns The Emperor done blew up my Rhino(what'd I do wrong?) is quite good.

Wing's cover of ACDC's Highway to Hell is great for all occasions.

Only now do I realize how much I prefer Pete Haines' "misprints" to Gav Thorpe's "brainfarts." :Abadabadoobaddon

On Saturdays, we have to listen to whatever the FLGS has playing on the radio, which is usually classic rock.

But on Wednesday nights, they turn off the radio, and I bring my iPod + speakers, and we listen to metal and hard rock all night long while gaming

Mostly classical.  But that wasn't an option, so I didn't vote.  Some rock or metal too, I guess.  But mostly classical.

I too mostly do the classical thing for warhammer. Get some Carl Orf going, maybe Beethoven's odd numbered symphonies, Bach's heavyier organ works, and anything loud by Wagner and you are good to go. I've also managed to track down some more recent organ and chorus works that go well (heavy O' Fortuna style stuff).

I think the best thing I've ever found to listen to while playing warhammer though has got to be the soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian. Its full of really great music that just seems to fit so well.

Anyone remember the 40k game "Chaos Gate" for the PC? That game had some good music, exactly the style I look for when playing.

For those, like me, who like to mix their metal and classical there is also anything by Therion (the band, not the dakka poster) or any of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's non-Christmas music.

I voted Show tunes.  I play a wide variety of cheesy Sci-fi show themes while gaming:

- Herc & Xena

- Battlestar Galactica

-Star Trek

-Mortal Combat

and even the occasional vid-game sound track such as Command & Conqure...

Carl Orf is a great choice - Carmina Burana is awesome.

Also, all of The Planets, by Gustav Holst is an excellent choice, especially for 40k.

Gladiator is good, for the same reason The Planets is good.  Hans Zimmer referenced Mars, the Bringer of War pretty heavily in The Battle and Barbarian Horde.

For our weekly battles we have some select songs from the FFVII Advent Children Sound Track that we play. The mix between classical and rock with some of the battle themed songs work pretty well.

mostly anything fitting my "war" theme including-but-not-limited-to: all the music from command&conquer, johnny cash, pet shop boys, scooter, sousa, red army choir, vera lynn, blondie, klaus doldinger, edwin starr, stan ridgway, rolling stones, jerry reed, tchaikovsky, blues brothers, chuck berry, country joe and the fish, barry mcguire, animals, glen campbell, sam rydberg and many more.(note, includes both artists and composers)

this is put in a mixed playlist and then chosen randomly by the player.

there is a system to this but its hard to explain without listing all songs

Classical wasn't there so...Jazz. I like pop too . I primarily listen to classical anywhere. I'm surprised the OP included jazz when I was only expecting "metal, alternative, industrial, and other subgenres of rock".

If you get a chance, check out a group called "The Black Mages".  They do some rather pleasing things with a lot of the Final Fantasy music.  Lots of heavy electric guitar and synth work.  It comes out quite well.
