Well, I got to thinking to back a few years ago when I got into the hobby. Nowadays, all I do with armys is sit around, maximise units, leave some out for points, etc. WHat got me into the hobby was mainly all the cool wotnots that the maries get, especially marines. So, why not field them anyways? Besides, if I do it enough, I can probably win fairly well with a "Looks Cool" list, eh?

Simpel strategy: the HQ and the speeders make the main assualt element, with tactical moving or shooting as needed, and scouts and predator offering fire support with the Dred. Considering making the speeders once choice each...

Oy.

Okay, well...can we try some changes here and there? Consider the following'friendly' amendments:

1. HQ--give yourself the extra Asscan. C'mon, you know you want to. And it looks just as wiz as a HF. Lose the auspex

2. Give the dread Venerable status and Tank Hunter, if you can find the points

3. The Tac squad. Wow. Just wow. I'd lose a couple of guys (make 'em 8).

4. Scout Squad: upgrade the Scout sgt. to vet. status and give him a telehomer to bring in the Cmd Squad.

5. Switch from an annihilator to a destructor. You've got enough tank killy with the 4 asscans and the dread; this will give you some light tank and heavy troop killy, and allow you to move and shoot all the time.

That'll give you the following:

HQ:
Capt. w/SB, PW, Termie armor.
Retinue w/2 ACs
Elite:
Ven. Dread w/ML/TLLC; Tank Hunter; EA/Smoke
Troops:
8 Tac marines w/HB, PG
4 Scouts w/sniper rifles, HB; Vet w/sniper rifle, TH
FA:
2xTornados
HS:
Pred. Destructor w/2xHB, AC; EA, Smoke, searchlight

1000 points exactly, still clearly a 'fun' list, and much less ineffective (I think).

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

The Hammer

Running the dread and the pred in there, maybe try to cram in whatever other vehicles you have on your shelf? General internet principle of predators is that, being direct-fire tanks, they help out the most when you try to "overload" your opponent's AT abilities with potential targets.

That said, I think your 1500 list would look pretty cool too. From someone who played with un-upgraded Spinegaunts in 3rd because they came in the box with the Hormies on which the "good" players were maxing out, more power to you.

Hmm... I'm not sure I'll do the extra Asscan, as it costs money to buy another. Maybe in the far future.

I do like the teleport homer idea, and I plan to add a Vindicator and Crusdaer by 2000pts (lots of targets).

As for the Annihilator: maybe. My experience with asscans aren't too reliable (contrary to msot) just as I find plasma extremely reliable and effective (contrary to most). I'll probably try the list with both variants over time.

Ok, so here are a couple changes: added a veteran sergeant to the scouts for a teleport homer. I redcuded the tactical to 9 men and got rid of the Captain's auspex to do this. Split up the speeders.
