Hey everyone,

I want to find something to use as a 'plague sword' for my Nurgle champs and HQs.  Ideally I'm looking for something large and a little weird and chaosy.  But not as ornate as Abaddon's Sword.  Most of the 40k stuff is too 'techy'.  Unfortunately, I'm not at all familiar with Fantasy.

Does anyone have suggestion for a fantasy sword bit that would look cool?  Or even a 40k bit, maybe from the Dark Eldar line or something.  Especially if its a bit that people generally don't use (ie might be in someone's bitz box and therefore tradeable) since I'll need a few of them.

I had a brief search of the online catalog but it returned too many hits.  The LOTR dark rider sword looked cool, but I don't imagine that too many of those are lying around.

Any suggestions will be appreciated, especially if it's something I can look up a photo of online.

Thanks,

-S

Why not "sculpt" your own? It's not as hard as it sounds. Just take a pice of cardstock, like a .040 inch/1mm thick strip (or even thicker, like .06"/1.5mm), that's a quarter inch or wider and use it to make some brutal looking blade? With some thinner strips (or greenstuff) you can put braces on the side and either pin or create a valley in the hilt to hold it in place.

Well...cause I'm lazy? Also I assume that the GW sculptors are better at this sort of thing than I am. I just starting using Green Stuff a couple of months ago.

Really, I just want to know what to ask for in a trade post (ie "WHFB Chaos Fonzie Blade, 2nd edition"). I looked at the WHFB normal Chaos Warrior blades, but they look too boring - they're just straight broadswords.

I'm hoping that there might be some model out there that comes with multiple weapons (a la Canoness), and that choosing something *other* than the model's Greatsword is such a no-brainer that people are likely to have a few of these swords kicking around in their bitz box.

But since I don't play Fantasy (or Dark Eldar) I'm not sure what's out there that fits that bill.

I may end up bitz ordering a few EC Lord sword arms I suppose - that's big and wicked-looking enough. I'm just hoping to find an alternative.

As Narly suggested you could build one yourself.

I've done this in the past and actually its no way as difficult as it sounds. Why not use some plasticard? That way you can get a nice thick badass broad sword. Use a pin vice to drill out a little hole in the top corner to give it some detial and charatcer, and use a modelling knife to cut some notches out of the blade.

Then just use a little green stuff in a thin strip to make a thumb guard at the bottom on the blade. Bit of modelling wire or bronze wire as a handle and your done!

Alternatively you could have a look at Rackham. Confrontation has some seriously chunky broad swords. You can order them in parts form i believe. For example in this figure below you can order the arms seperate. Chop the sword off at the hand and there you have one honking huge broad sword for a daemon prince or exalted champion.

Or you could order this arm

http://www.rackham-store.com/boutique_us/fiche_produit.cfm?type=548&ref=FRDVEL02&code_lg=lg_us&pag=1&num=6&tri=0&marq=0

If you wanted something less orge size and more mansized you could try these dirz blades

http://www.rackham-store.com/boutique_us/fiche_produit.cfm?type=43&ref=FRSCEL01&code_lg=lg_us&pag=1&num=4&tri=0&marq=0

Hope this helps and have a look on the Rackham site they have loads of cools bits.

Is the one too plain that comes with the plague marines? Its one handed and looks broken and used.. it fits a good visualization of the plague sword.

Try the marauder champion sword arm from the WHFB Marauder regiment, http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99120201003&orignav=13 Sprue B, by the skull cloak.

Thanks for all the suggestions and links everyone!

I do like that Chaos Marauder champ sword...also the Dawn Warrior (Dirz?) blades. The Goblin sword is a cool shape but is too small.

The broken sword that comes with the new Plague Marines...meh. It's kinda small and unimpressive for the Plague Sword's abilities. I like my special weapons to really jump out visually: That's right, that's a PLAGUE SWORD comin' at ya, loyalist scum!

As for plasticard, greenstuff: see "lazy", above.

I dunno what to really suggest you use but i do say if you want something done right do it yourself even if you are a bit lazy. I made this one when i was making my nurgle terminator lord, its juts a bif of thick plasticard chopped into a sword a bit of a spear for a handle and some greenstuff to make the bandage and diesese clump on it, took all of 25 minutes to create with drying for the green stuff inbetween, so i did the handle and then the diese bit, i think its very plague swordy and i hope you might make your own.

Thanks for the reference to reaper. I searched their site for 'sword' and found a couple of gems:
