At the end of the month, the local 40k League is going to start once again, and this time around I'm trying to get my guard painted in time to do battle. This time we're starting at 500 points, and working our way up to either 1500, or 2000.

We're using the combat patrol rules, but with 500 points instead of 400.

Here is what I plan on bringing.

Command Platoon
 - Command Squad (Junior officer, 4x barebones guardsmen)
 - Fire Support Squad (3x Heavy bolters)

6x Stormtroopers (2x Plasma guns, Infiltrate)

Infantry Platoon
 - Command Squad (Junior Officer, 4x barebones guardsmen)
 - Infantry Squad (1x Lascannon, 1x Plasma gun)
 - Infantry Squad (1x Lascannon, 1x Plasma gun)

2 lascannons, 4 plasma guns (2 at BS4), and 3 heavy bolters. I think this should be enough to deal with any army, at 500 points, except maybe a mass gaunt horde, or ork boy horde.

All Officers have Iron Discipline, and everyone that can take cameleoline has it.

Comes out to 496.

Any thoughts?

Leave the lascannons at home at 500 points. The heaviest armor you will see at this level is av12, auto cannon bait.

I highly recomment leaving the stormies at home and bringing a chimera. It is a monster at this point level.

I agree with foil about the Autocannon. Take them instead of Lascannons - it'll do you wonders to have them instead.

Can't say I know much about Chimeras though - not enough experience with mechanized or APCs in general.

Here here. I 3rd Foil's suggestions because they were exactly what I was going to say.

Lose the ST's and the LC's.

Add an IF Sqd with AC and PG.

The difference to your list would be 1 less PG with an added ML and HB + Potential Tank Shock.
