Hey all,

Continuing on with my sporradic ramblings on the subject, here's my latest idea on a cavalry regiment for guard:

Doctrines: Special weapons squads, Iron discipline, drop troops, veterans, grenediers

(note: all entries of "chimera" are 85 points: heavy bolter/multi-laser)

HQ

Heroic Junior Officer-honorifica, chimera, flag, ID/166

Special weapons-3 melta/80

Las cannon squad/110

ELITES

5 Veterans-3 plas/75

TROOPS

10 Grenediers-2 plasma, chimera/205

10 Inquisitorial Stormtroopers-2 plasma, chimera/205

Total:1800

That leaves me with 50 points to spend. I'd like to get the following into the list (in this order):

2 Leman Russes

1 Hellhound

more las cannons

hood inquisitor

Recomendations?

Oh, you mean Armored Cav- helicopters, Scout in APCs and Tanks.

I'd swap the meltas to the Vets for BS4 and give the spec wpns the plasmas.

Not sure what to drop to get tanks, but you do need some.

after swapping the meltas to the vets, drop the two lascannon squads as well as a special weapon squad, and now you have room for 2 Leman Russes. Then, if you drop the command chimera, with the points you didn't spend on the russes you can add the hellhound.

Good advice rryannn...with enough dropping meltas, lascannons are superfluous. I doubt you'll be facing more than 5 vehicles most of the time. Your Multilasers and Grenadier plasma can deal with transports in a pinch, if you get bad scatters on the drop or if you face another mechanized army.
