2. Basilisk w/ armoured crew compartment, indirect fire                 145pts

It all ads up to 1500pts.  My plan is to use set up several stong bases of fire in cover throughtout my deployment zone and use my indirect fire to force him to come after me.  The Rough Riders are for counter-attacking any podding units, and the vets are going to take and hold valuable positions or just hole up if the mission demands it. I've got a lot of nasty dakka that i can use to hit mid-range opponents and then in the final turns surge forward and grab any objectives with whoever is left.

Please commont on how the army could be meaner.

I see two problems.  First, you put a heavy weapon in your command HQ.  This isn't a good idea, because this not only makes them a bigger target, but if you can see them, they can see you.  You want to hide your CHQ, it's there for Ld, not firepower.  Use those points to give your JO an Honorifica Imperialis.  Second, you're giving your vet. sarges powerfists.  Powerfists are useless for Guard, because it only gives you S6, and you're going to lose in assualt anyway, so what's the point?  The only time you're going to be in assault is if you're losing, and why plan for that?

I'm unsure about your stormtroopers.  Regular infantry platoons are simply more cost effective.  As far as your vets go, you should min size them and make them dropping plasma or melta suicide squads.  This would require another doctrine point, so I recommend dropping grenadiers for drop troops and using platoons for your troop choices.

Drop the power swords from your rough riders and take an additional rider in each squad.  RRs are one-shot units, so don't bother spending points to make them effective past that intitial charge, because they won't be.

One final note: autocannons are ineffective in games larger than 1000 pts or so.  Change that FS squad to heavy bolters.

Decent list overall, good luck with it.
