Does tank hunter work against the wave serpent's energy field?

I have seen both sides argued for this and was wondering what people here thought of it?

If it's worded the same way as the old book, then yes, it does count.

The old book only has two restrictions:

1. S8 or higher is treated as S8

2. You never roll more than 1D6

Tank hunter doesn't change the strength, and doesn't have you rolling more than 1D6, so isn't affected.

This is what I thought as well.

You can never roll more than 1D6, Tank Hunters adds 1 to your roll. So technically you are never rolling more than one D6. So both rules are compatible.

Why the Wave Serpent, a skimmer, has a rule that would benefit a land based tank is another thing entirely.

Tank Hunter adds to die roll result not Strength, so should work fine

Tank hunter is +1 to the armor pen roll. Unles there is a specific FAQ like the monolith that states otherwise than Tank Hunter works.

As everyone has already noted, the TH +1 is neither an increase to the strength of the weapon nor an extra pen die, so the Waveserpent field grants absolutely no protection against it. Unless they've changed the wording of the field in the new codex, that is.

Chaos Havocs with 4x Autocannon and Tankhunter = dead Waveserpents all day long. .88 dead per turn per unit of Havocs, with average dice. I used to like fielding my Havocs with 2 ML and 2 ACs so I had a little better impact on higher-AV vehicles. and still .74 dead serpents per round if needed.

Of course, Vectored Engines help the Serpents survive this considerably better now. But it's still the best anti-Serpent unit in the game.
