Is it worth it to pay 15 points to give a 5-man terminator squad with 2 assault cannons the tank hunter vet. skill? I haven't taken the time to do the math out yet, but it seems it would help against av 10-12, especially skimmers.

As it was pointed out on here by other members, it literally doubles your chances of getting a glancing hit on AV12 Skimmers.

Knowing this, I want you to look at the new Eldar Codex, take a look at what units they have, and then look at their available transports.

Now, do you think it's worth 15 Points to double your chances at getting glancing hits against AV12 Skimmers?

Tank hunters adds +1 str to the str vs the AV right?

Im at a loss as to how it helps with skimmers directly.

Currently you glance skimmers on a hit + 6 roll....with tank hunters its hit + 5+....

You do the math...

The +1 to the AP roll against vehicles just made your storm bolter S5 against vehicles so, it can now glance AV11(instead of only glancing AV 10), plus now you have 8 - S7 shots against AV12 skimmers, you glance on a 5+ now instead of only on 6's. That squad is now better at destroying AV10-12 skimmers.

Against vehicles, putting tank hunters ability on terminators with assault cannons is like shooting a lascannon instead of a missile launcher. The extra strength is worth it, that is why you see las/plas instead of ML/plas.

Killing Skimmers, especially Tau and Eldar Skimmers that have nasty upgrades on them, means you have to inflict a lot of glancing hits. If you can't put a lot of glancing hits on them, you're probably not going to stop the skimmer.

Eldar Skimmers are all AV12, so if you can double your chances of getting glancing hits on them with Terminators and Assault Cannons, then you're doing a good job. It's like shooting 8 S7 shots against an AV12 Skimmer.

Yes it is. Seen as everyone and their dog is spawning eldar lists full of AV12 tanks recently, tank hunting is definitely worth it.

uh mabey because thets thier standard AV value?

 

unless they are using vipers or something light, AV 12 and 13 are al you will find on the front facings of heavier tank classified skimmers(except the  monolith, but it doesn't move over 6"

Remember your now a S7 rending weapon so even more Pen!

it's tempting even for the extra hitting power it gives the stormbolters - a pile of strength 5 shooting isn't to be sneezed at if you're up against light vehicles.

Being able to glance av11 vehicles with the oodles of str 4 weapontry is nearly an assured way of getting rid of the target vehicle or vehicle squadron.

Tank hunters is a very worthwhile usage of a vet skill, though I am not sure of Iii would put it on all of the termies, but 2 squads should be good.

I can't stress how good Tank Hunting Assault Cannons are.

Do the math against AV13 and AV14. With two BS4 Terminators with Assault Cannons you have an 88% chance of glancing AV14 or Penetrating AV13 each time you fire a squad of terminators at it.

It can not be understated. The reason I've done so well against Mech Sisters in my test games is because any piece of armor they had died the second a terminator squad sneezed at it.

Yeah, I've been using one squad of tank hunter terminators ever since I've started this thread, it rocks.

Teleport in behind a vehicle with AV10 means that the stormbolters will double their number of damage rolls. (from needing a 6 to a 5)

I used a 6 man w/ 2 Assault Cannons and Tankhunters, Teleport behind IG line Russes have 10 Rear, smoked one then next turn cooked a Chimera, but killing the Russ on the drop in, poor IG...you would think I just kicked him in the nuts...the look on his face.

It's good. I don't take it all the time, but if I know I'm going up against Eldar or Tau, I take it.
