At the local GW store I got the bonesinger for buying a 'Nid Battleforce and a WHFB rulebook. I went in to buy a carnifex and I didn't have the hardcover rulebook yet, so it wasn't too bad. But I did spend way more than I was planning too. Bonesinger's pretty cool though.

That deal makes so little sense that it makes me want to smack a baby.

Ok, I retract my earlier sarcasm. GW is just appealing to the inner greedy
gamer who must have 1 of everything, and multiples of everything else. If
people didn't shop the way they did, then maybe they wouldn't make this
promotion a viable deal.

I still don't get how this promo gets anyone INTO the hobby (as in, from
not having anything at all).

If you're just getting into the hobby, you probably have no idea that your Space Marines and your Imperial Guard aren't part of the same army. So you get to be called 'Sucker' by all the veteran gamers, espacially after one of them buys the Bonesinger off you for a dollar.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Their sales must be seriously hurting with all these lame promos they keep rolling out. I have a funny feeling that Christmas isn't coming to Games Workshop this year...

Yeah, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I understand a deal if you buy the basic game and a battleforce- both are good starting points to the game. But the bonesinger is for an army that doesn't even come in the starting set, and technically there aren't even stats for it in the game. The WHFB deal makes a lot more sense because you can get a LE night goblin fanatic , which if you buy Battle for Skull's Pass, becomes very useful. I guess the most efficient way to get the bonesinger if you play Eldar is to get the hardcover 40K rulebook (if you don't already have it), the (preferrably older) Eldar battleforce, and then the bonesinger. That way you don't get a bunch of models you don't need.

But after saying that, there's really no such thing as models you don't need. Models from another army make great casualty covered bases and terrain or trophies. Battle for Macragge could be used to put dead bugs all over your eldar if you're playing the craftworld that almost died to bugs, or any other craftworld could use some dead marines. Really what Xenos or Chaos army couldn't use a bunch of dead marines. In fact, I used a Battle for Macragge marine just last night in the base of a tyrant guard. He's getting his face squished under a hoof.

This is obviously in anticipation for the new "Alliance" supplement, where a player can take any unit, from any army, with no restrictions.

Exalt.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

Thing is, I'd happily buy the bonesinger if GW was selling it by itself - *cough*GWUKOnlineStoreFTW**cough* - and use it as the farseer in a hardcore Iyanden army of wraithguards & lords. But seeing how that isn't an option, I can wait several years until plastic wraithguard are released alongside the 'limited edition' bonesinger general release ...

Also, we know this, but eBay is a crazy place.

This thread is crazy-go-nuts.

I'm off for real fruit smoothies.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil
