Toowoomba, Australia

An army made by made by Aaron Bailey (not me)

Last weekend I played WHFB at Orktoberfest in Brisbane, Australia and during breaks I'd go over to the 40k players and check out the armies. One that blew me away was a traitor IG army that for me captured perfectly how I'd imagine a very recently fallen traitor IG unit.

Beautiful conversions (Predator turrets on chimeras, a LR converted from a chimera chassi), and a very simple, but extremely effective paint scheme. He didn't go bananas with the 'I'm chaos and therefore covered in fur, skulls and spikes with OTT mutations' which IMHO enhances the army even more.

The standout of the army though was the demolisher.

Ever wanted a demolisher that looked like this?

For the rest of the army head over to my Pbase account. A couple of pics may seem as if overexposed on the highlights and this is because I've had to modify the pics using Picasa2  (Download it, its free and great! ) to up the brightness, crop pics and generally resize them so I can get them below 1Mb and therefore upload them in under 5 minutes.

Nice looking army. Very distinctive, with a look that definitely hangs together cohesively.

That "demolisher" definitely doesn't look like it's wearing front armor of 14, but it's a beautiful piece regardless.

Holy cow, that is the coolest converted scout titan I have ever seen!  Simple parts used in a great way!  I am stealing that idea right now for my own traitor guard.  Heck I can have a loyalist and a traitor version for less than a resin FW version!  Thanks for the cool pics WG!

I remember seeing some of the stormtroopers and the chimeras for this army, but thanks for pics of the rest! Wonderful army, great painting and modeling throughout.

I think they'd be a great looking guard army but the chaosness isn't quite overt enough for me. I'd prefer to see the leaders represented as being more corupted. I like the idea of the corupt leaders dragging their loyal followers along with them into the heart of darkness. I think the maker of that army did a good job representing that concept by having the psychers represent leader models, although it would've been nice to see them looking a bit more corupted. As it stands the army looks, at least to my eyes, as if they converted to chaos in the last week or so.

What would've been cool is if the individual units, and possibly the individual models, were non-uniformly committed to chaos. As in some guys threw themselfs into it full force while others are secretly more torn about it...

The parts aren't from a Scout Titan at all. A lot of the parts are from a Defiler (legs, feet, torso, possibly the battlecannon). The top piece is what I'm not too sure about.

Very cool concept nontheless. I personally like the overall look of the army. They do seem to fit the early break from the Imperium and over to Chaos; not very corrupted yet. Great army.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

It looks like Sentinel body and lots of plasticard.

As for the army, it's a cool concept but only average in realisation. The painting is average at best, although the infantry is somewhat better than the vehicles.

To me, it's like a mish-mash of styles, caught between two themes with not enough chaos elements to make it a chaos army and too much imperial elements to make you think it's anything but an Imperial army with a different paint job. I know that's the intention, but I still feel it fails.

Just my opinion, of course.

Ironically, they do. So do cheats.

I think jdp meant that it looks like a titan, not that it was made from one. It's obviously made from a sentinal and a defiler, but it does look like a titan, or at least an aspiring titan. I really like the army. I do agree with DM that it would have been cool if the leaders were more chaotic, but the basic guys look great. Less is more. Thanks for posting these, Gonads.

That scout titan conversion is just totally fecking awesome. Wow is that thing *female dog*in' rad.

As far as the imagery goes, I think it's fine. Chaos, by it's very definition, shouldn't be limited by it's "definition". I mean, it's chaos? All sorts of strange things can happen, including armies that otherwise look "loyalist" but on closer inspection, there is something off, just a little and CHOMP: THE EVIL GETS YOU!!! So, with that in mind, I think the army looks great, it's very cohesive and looks the part even if it isn't tentacle, skull and spike covered Gothic chaos darkness.

It would be a good of Sek/BloodPact type force. Now if he can just convert some stalk tanks.

It's a fantastic looking army. I'm not a fan of ST's, but he did a great job on them. The "Titan" is bad ass and everything is tied together. The lack of skulls and what not actually makes it for me.

Hey guys, thankyou for all the kind comments and constructive critisms.

Seems my last profile on dakka was lost in the ether, but luckily managed to get the same user name

Many of you hit the nail on the head, this army is themed around just turning to chaos. the main inspiration being the Bloodpact and Sons of Sek from the Gaunts Ghosts novels. That is a highly motivated professional army, that just happens to be fighting for the gods of Chaos.

Any questions I'll be glad to answer.

Cheers

Aaron

P.s. congratulations to any Australian Golden Daemon winners! Enjoy those trophies, i know i will
