Is this still valid, now that the new Codex: Eldar is out?  My thought would be no, since it was an addendum to the old codex, but I have no direct proof one way or another.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

no, the codex is no longer valid. The creators made it quite clear in all the earlier white dwarfs when discussing the release that this new codex was set up so that you could still create most of the old craftworld armies, but you just wouldnt have any of the speciall rules. That is why pathfinders are a regular troops choice now just like jetbikes. This way, you can still create an aloitic force with all rangers and a sam hain army with jetbikes. They wanted the new codex to be as all encompassing as possible.

Hope this helped.

It is actually a good point; is there a RAW argument that the old Craftworld lists can't be used with the 4th ed. Eldar Codex (especially in the light of the rumours regarding the ability to use the USF list with the new Codex....)

The codex has been out for less than a day for general release, and people are trying to put the cheese back into them already.

Amazing.

Are you really serious? A raw argument for using the craftworld codex with the new dex?

All of the newest prints supercede the previous printing. There is your raw.

The rumours about USF are misquoted judging by how you percieve them.

Phil kelly said tcraftworld and USF are perfectly usable with the old codex when amongst friends, just like its still perfectly legal to play 2 nd ed with your friends.

Dont you think if they intended to make the 4th ed porint compatible with the craftworld dex, that they would have lauded it loud and hard about how "cool" that is?

Codex Craftworld is gone and from the sounds of it GW isn't going to be doing another one.

Also, if Codex Craftworld Eldar was still a valid codex don't you think it would still be on sale in GW's online store?

Ummm....I think that there is a slight overreaction going on here. I was simply interested in a RAW analysis; there is no way that one could seriously suggest that they *intended* the 3rd ed. Craftworld lists to be used with the new Codex (given the history, Phil Kelly comments, etc).

Merely looking at wording and unintended looholes. I mean, this is YTMC, yes? I know the intent; I was merely interested in the more academic question if they actually spelt out anywhere that the Craftworld lists didn't apply....
