Saving 20 points by using a commissar as my HQ for the 500 point level of an escalation league.  Here's the results so far:

I plan to model some sort of cape or greatcoat on her next.  Then, I'm going to give some body and length to the hair to make her look a bit more feminine (since she opted not to jump out of Valkyries in the commissarial bustier.)  Let me know what you think and any suggestions for improvement.

Her cap seems a bit "perched" on her head. Other than that it looks good.

Yeah, the cap seems a lil wonkey. The Commisar cap is a regal and static accesory, and having it mixed in with a functional BDU, it becomes a contradiction of asthetics. Hopefully when you get that great coat or cape it will pull it in to place. Otherwise yank it. If you want to keep that theme of a functional and in-the-trenches Commisar, you might want to devise a different theme for the head. Maybe just model it like you would a regular Commander and paint it in black and red. Good luck!

i agree the hat looks a bit perched on top of the head. and looks somewhat odd there has to be another way to convey the commissar look which is an in teresting topic in by itself.

For me the hats not an issue its the head. Its way out of proportion to the body and is far too small.

I'd try to find another good female head, or at least bulk it out with some green stuff hair.

Also I find the body a bit odd, as it clearly very masculine. Its not the chest thats an issue for my but the entire general "build" of the torso. The chunky muscle and the lack of hips etc.

If she is in a drop troops army you should give her a pony tail or a rear hair bun if only for functionality. Not bad truth be told. But by viewing the pieces you've used a male Commissar would have been infinitely easier.

Orks are like those neighbor children who aren't invited to your parties and they come right in anyway.

Hey, thanks for the replies thus far!

I'm gonna fire up the dremel and see if I can't get that hat to sit a bit better on her head.  The hat is actually the Games Day Female Commissar Hat.  The body went to another conversion I did back in '99, and I was really suprised to see the hat still in the bitz box.  The head is from the Mordhiem Amazons.

While the unhelmeted head may seem a bit out of place in the EDT army.  I've decided for form over function for my officers and veterans.  It adds a little bit of character without detracting too much from the overall look.  I figure if the Space Marines can do it, so can the drop troops.

The head I think is actually proportional to the body when you consider how slim the helmeted Elysian heads are.  Although I'm starting to agree that some of the proportions here could be decidedly more feminine.  Right now "baby's got back" and some major thighs.  Perhaps if I removed the shoulder pads, and used a different set of legs?  I'll see if the Catachan Grenade Launcher legs are a little more slender and use those as a starting point.  Maybe I'll find that her head would work better as well.

Yes, it would've been way easier to just do a male commissar, but the story of a fresh out of the schola progenium female commissar accidentally assigned to an all-male Elysian regiment (where they don't really need commissars to begin with) just really amused me for some reason...

Once again, thanks for the helpful feedback!  I'll try some new bits, green stuff, and dremeling and be back with EDT female commissar Mk II.
