Missionary On A Mission

 Hey,

I was considering doing Eldar after reading all the rumours and reviews of the new Codex. I never
played eldar before and I was thinking of trying something different:

HQ

Avatar -155

Farseer with Fortune - 85

Elite

8 Firedragons with Waveserpent (Shruiken Cannon Turret, Vectored Engines, Spirit Stones, Shruiken Cannon Upgrade) -268

8 Firedragons with Waveserpent (Shruiken Cannon Turret, Vectored Engines, Spirit Stones, Shruiken Cannon Upgrade) - 268

Troop

10 Dire Avengers with Exarch, Dual Catapults, Bladestorm with Waveserpent (Shruiken Cannon Turret, Vectored Engines, Spirit Stones, Shruiken Cannon Upgrade) -292

11 Guardians with Scatterlaser Platform, Warlock with Conceal - 143

11 Guardians with Scatterlaser Platform,  Warlock with Conceal -143

11 Guardians with Scatterlaser Platform,  Warlock with Conceal -143

11 Guardians with Scatterlaser Platform,  Warlock with Conceal -143

Heavy Support

Wraithlord with Missle Launcher- 120

Wraithlord with Missle Launcher -120

2 War Walkers with Scatterlaser- 120

Basically, it has a fast air element and a mobile ground element. The Avatar keeps the guardians fearless and the Farseer's job is to fortune the Avatar or guardians. The 3 waveserpents are durable and fast enough to get their cargo to vunerable elements of the enemy. The firedragons should be able to decimate heavy infantry while the Dire Avengers finish them off. The Guardians and War Walkers provide a ridiculous amount of anti-infantry/ light skimmer fire while the Wraithlords do decent ranged anti-tank fire support. The 3 monsterous creatures should make a good counter-charge.

I was thinking of replacing the Avatar and two Guardian Squads with another  Dire Avenger unit and a jetbike DoomSeer with mindwar.

What do you think?

Does anyone have any experience with an army like this? Will it work?

Thanks in advance

So far the feedback and consensus (and some test games) is suggesting that depending on a large number of guardian defender squads as the core of your army doesn't work. Even if they don't run away, they are so easy to mow down with basic weapons from beyond their retaliation range, and so easy to wipe out in assault, and have so little firepower to offer, that they can't do as much as other units of equivalent cost. There may still be a role for a couple of defender squads, but not four.

Even before the new codex it was true that a concealock is not worth the points on a small guardian squad--and with more expensive warlocks it's even more true now. You're paying 40 points to increase the number of wounds your squad can take by 33%. Why not just buy 5 more guardians and increase the number of wounds by 50%? You don't start hitting a good value number with conceal until you get up above 14-15 models.

I believe that units such as fire support Guardians should be fielded as stripped down and small as possible. 10 Guardians with Scatter Laser would be 95 points. In your list that would free up 192 points for other unit(s). For 95 points they do their job cheaply because your opponent has more impotant things to deal with or, being perceived as an easy kill, they get shot up and die each unit drawing at least one turns attention away from more dangerous units.

i would replace the scatter lasers on the war walkers with starcannons and bright lances, to give your army some heavy hitting stuff. As it is right now, you dont have too much power armor busting stuff.
