I am very excited about the new codex. I normally play friendly games, with a few small store tournaments thrown in. I am searching for a fast, competitive, balanced and challenging list to play with that no one will cry cheese at. Shining Spears and Swooping Hawks are models I am looking forward to using.

HQ

Farseer- 133
Singing Spear, Doom, Fortune, Spirit Stones

Elites

5+1 Fire dragons- 131
Exarch- Firepike, Tank Hunters

9+1 Howling Banshees- 182
Exarch- Executioner

Wave Serpent- 165
Twinlinked Bright Lance, Spirit Stones

Troops

9+1 Dire avengers- 152
Exarch- Second Shuriken Catapult, Bladestorm

9+1 Dire avengers- 152
Exarch- Second Shuriken Catapult, Bladestorm

Fast Attack

4+1 Shining Spears- 237
Exarch- Starlance, Skilled Rider, Withdraw

5+1 Swooping Hawks- 173
Exarch- Sunrifle, Skyleap, Intercept

Heavy Support

Falcon- 175
Scatter Laser, Holo-field, Spirit Stones

TOTAL 1500

Any pointers on strategy or my army list is much appreciated.

Thank You!

Ideally, that Farseer needs to have a bike, so that he can keep up with the stuff that needs his powers. A Fortune on turbo-boosting Spears or a Doom on the squad the Banshees are about to assault will help greatly, and some mobility to use that spear aggressively can't hurt. As it stands, he'd only help the Dire Avengers a little.

The Falcon needs vectored engines; that way, it will only be destroyed on double 6s. That saves the Dragons from taking casualties in the wreck and being entangled for a turn. The only optional upgrade for Falcons now is star engines, and I'd take those anyway for sheer flexibility.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Thank you for all your comments. I would love to put my farseer on a bike, the only problem being the point cost. Any suggestions you have in freeing up those points would be very appreciated. The same goes for the falcon, I know how good vectored engines are, but again the point restraint. Maybe I should drop tank hunters or the fire pike. Do you have any suggestions about what to drop to get the necessary points? Anyways, thank you for your comments.

I am open to any other comments anyone has!

drop the firepike from the exarch, the spirit stones although they allow you to use 2 powers are too expensive your'e probably better off picking a power each turn, using a bike to get him where he needs to be, also the stones on the waveserpent are they necessary i think it could be used without them, also exarch w/executioner for banshees isn't needed if you are planning on dooming them alot so if you want to keep stones ont the seer you could drop that to make things cheaper. also shuriken cannon on falcon will save you 10 pts (i think) for one less shot, also is interecpt necessary for the hawks. they are just going to be dropping and shooting up hordes. so:

-possible changes(drops):

-firepike

-falcon, sc for scatter

-spirit stones for serpent

-stones for seer, or exarch for banshees

-intercept(possibly exarch) on hawks

just my thoughts, nice to see some different builds though

Interesting--I'd cut in totally different places. Seer stones are a bargain now compared to the way they used to be, and I find that I need both doom & fortune in the same turn on a regular basis. Stones also vital for all grav tanks because a stunned tank is a dead tank (the following turn). The executioner keeps the banshees from getting bogged against toughness 5 units like bikes, immortals, etc..

I'd change the serpent brightlance to a scatterlaser--they spend most of the game shaken anyway and fire dragons are better tank killers. Then, after that in order of priority, I'd cut a rankd & file hawk, the sunrifle, the fire dragon exarch, or just his firepike, or all the hawks.

I suspect that one wave serpent with DA's in it will be more effective than two footslogging units of DA's for the same cost. If you find your DA's are useless or too vulnerable, cut one squad and put the other into a transport.

Thanks for your suggestions. Im thinking of droping the dragon exarch and his fire pike all together. I need intercept to take down my buddies monolith, so thats out. My falcon and waveserpent are already assembled from my 3rd edition army so I cant really change those. From experience I like to take spirit stones on all my vehicles, they're a steal for their price. That should be just about enough for my farseers jetbike, if not I guess I can do without skilled riders.

Thanks for the suggestions and I am open to any more anyone has!

Does anyone know a website were I can learn to convert my farseer onto a bike?

Thanks!
