I'm going for basically a second greater demon, so let me know what you think... <table rules="groups" frame="void" cols="1" cellspacing="0" border="1"> <colgroup><col width="382"></col></colgroup> <tbody> <tr> <td width="382" height="50" align="left">Mark Of Khorne, Demonic Stature, Demonic Essence, Demonic Resilience, Demonic Speed, Great Weapon, Feel No Pain, Collar of Khorne, Demonic Aura</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> At 158 points, I get WS 6 BS 3 S 6 T 6(5) W 4 I 5 A 4 Ld 10 Sv 3+/5i + 4+ FNP Not as good as a bloodthirster, but nearly as good (or better) than the other GDs, plus I didn't want to go much over 150 pts considering if I go second he is probably not going to live... Two things missing are demonic visage and personal icon. a base of only 4 attacks is a little crappy too.. I thought collar of khorne would be handy (eldar doom and marine force weapons are so annoying).

Almost the same as my Prince, except I'd give him D. Armour as well. A 2+ save really helps against AP3 weapons and makes you unkillable by infantry. Very powerful, imo probably the best DP behind the broken Siren Prince.
Its not too hard to keep him alive as only tau can reliably insta-kill him and you need about 14-15 lascannon hits on him to kill him so at BS4 thats 21-22 lascannon shots... Not even IWs can put out that many before the reaches the enemy lines. And they have to shoot him, so the rest of your army is unmolested.

I tried this DP vs another chaos army today, and he rocked very hard. Strength 6, toughness 6 and initiative 5 eats MEQs alive. I used him to finish off the following squads: Bikers (killed 3) Berzerkers (killed 3) 2 squads of Havocs (5 a piece) I think if I gave him frag grenades, that would be about all I would change.

I like the build for the points, but I wouldnt say he is as good if not better than the other GD'd. Maybe the Lord of Change, but not the Keeper and definately not GUO. Simply for the same reason as Mephet'ran said, surviablity. He can get instant killed and has to walk to battle while whetering the fire. If you have the points I would go for a rune definatly.

Well, my BT lasted one and a half turns (died from a failed instability), my DP lasted 6 my last game... so, in theory yes, you are right, but I still like him better than the GDs. It is Much cheaper. remember GDs add the cost of the vessel, so your talking 28 + points added, plus 20 points if you go for the chains. So right there a GD costs at least 180 - 200 points (Bloodthirsters cost close to 250 in a WE army) plus you lose you AC. DPs also do not suffer from instability if the AC dies before he's summoned. Also, I've had games where my GD didn't come out until turn 4, by then it was nearly too late. this DP is in CC turn 2. But to each their own...

Instakilling T5 isn't that easy. And with Speed, he isn't exactly walking (6 inch move, d6 in shooting, 12 inch assault- should get 2nd turn assaults pretty consitantly). Daemonic Essence is probably overkill- 3 wounds are hard enough. I also don't see alot of Force Weapons and Doom...meh... so I am not a huge fan of the collar, but YMMV. I like Daemon Strength and Furious Charge (the I boost is very handy! You can swing before anything short of a genestealer) and, if you kepp the GW, he autokills T4. Dreadaxe is also great fun, and you don't need to buy STR upgrades with it because it always wounds on a 4+, allowing no A/IS. But you can if you still want the insta-kills ;-) I also definitely recomend Daemon Armor for this guy. The 2+ save is too good to pass up and neutering AP3 weapons is great.
