Brotherhood of Blood

Starting a new gaurd army and was wondering what lists out there have had the most effectiveness.  Looking at 1500pts and 1850pts.  Is there a balance between tanks or is it more effective to go all infantry.  Are thier any GT links were IG have placed in the top 5 that I can view.  Any feed back would be great.

Recently I got rid of all of my tanks because i hated that one shot kills 150 points. So now I am going with hvy weapon platoons which seem to be doing OK so far. I have not really faced any armies yet that can stand up to the list though. So I am wondering how it will play in more competitive play.

I've yet to play a comp. game at 1850, but I have a list that would hopefully do well, made up of 6 tanks and 90-100 infantry(can't remember exactly). I feel that as long as you target the right targets with the right weapons you'll do fairly well. There are plenty of solid comp lists floating around here, ranging from drop troops to Armored companies.

Ground tanks have really been nerfed. It seems to do armored company's you need to go skimmers any more. I have had games were my demolishers were gone in the first two turns and the games were they have stuck around seems to be more from my opponents bad dice rolls than thier armor. Mobility seems to be lacking also with my gaurd and I am thinking of using some sentinels.

It all depends on how much you want to win, and your local enviroment. If you are going to a tourney where you know you can always deep strike, drop trooper guard is probably the nastiest build right now. However armored battle group is still pretty tough as well. The only problem is that people have so many ways of taking out an ig tank.... There armor does not protect them like they should. Now if we had a skimmer russ! That would be something to see.

All you need to do with guard is put so many targets on the table your opponent can't kill them all and/or has too many choices in terms of what he goes after. If you go all infantry, you'd better have 100+ men on the table (and light infantry doesn't hurt either). If you go mechanized (personal favorite) you're going to have at least 8 chimera hulls on the table plus a couple of russes plus the infantry. Check out C99's Adepticon AARs for good mech ideas. Look for Darkchild's lists if you're going light/drop infantry; those will be a little older as I haven't seen him around in a while.
