Can you split fire with it?  I hear you could from the 3rd edition and that people are still using it that way.  In the description it does not mention the ability to split fire, just fire an additional weapon.

Can someone clarify?

Nope.

In 3rd edition, the Landraider got special rules for its Machine Spirit in the same WD/Chapter Approved article which updated all the transports with exit hatches and fire points. Said rules included the ability to have the MS fire a weapon (at BS2 and at a different target if desired) whenever the vehicle could fire another weapon. Which also let people have the MS fire the twin-assault cannon on the Crusader when moving 12? because the Crusader can fire its Hurricane Bolters while moving 12?. It also allowed the tank to move directly forward even if the crew was Stunned.

In 4th edition, Power of the Machine Spirit is a SM vehicle upgrade which allows the above movement, and which allows the MS to fire one of the weapons (still at BS 2) if the vehicle moves no more than 6?. The ability to split fire is removed.

Thanks, thats how we played it (the correct way). I let the opponent roll on it to speed up the game but he rolled in favor of the rule I thought was true.

Mannahnin, we need a clone of you in ever gamestore.

the spire of angels

it's even simpler. there is only 1 army in 40K as of right now in 4th ed that can split fire-tau with target lock upgrade on thier vehicles.   an infantry/suit commander can as well as long as he passes his leadership test to shoot at something other than the closest target,

Just make sure that the Chaos player that uses this remembers that a dedicated transport land raider isn't scoring.

?

I thought Land Raiders always counted as a scoring unit, even if used as a dedicated transport.

There you go using your ?common sense? again.

Just Space Marine ones. Chaos Space Marine ones don't have that notation, but they can split thier fire unlike the loyalist ones.

If my opponent insists on splitting fire with a Chaos Land Raider, then I'm not going to allow it to count as a scoring unit.
