So I played Confrontation for the first time last night and was underwhelmed.

Talking about being underwhelmed with it game me an idea.

Has anyone here ever played, or come up with rules for a High Value HQ or Special Character battle?

Kind of like Combat Patrol turned on its head.

I was thinking it would work something like this:

500pts (or so)

Minimum 2 wounds
All Wargear allowed, no wargear maximums.
Maybe a minimum model value of 80pts or something.
Heavy amounts of terrain (or not)

Put the 500pts on the board and go at it, you could come up with some super cool scenarios too (Grudge Matches, Duels etc.)

I can think of certain armies that would get totally nerfed in this (Tau come to mind) and it is not as though this would ever be the ONLY way I would play 40k but it would be an interesting thing to try. It could be especially fun to do in a campaign.

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

Hmm....i can see Eldar kicking arse here. take Eldrad with a couple kitted out Autarchs, and you have an awesome team for this type of match. I love the idea!

Black Templar playing friend: There is only one Emperor in this galaxy, and he says you're mean!
Me: Yeah? Well...he's a...a...poopyface! So there!

Let's not even talk about how guard would fare in this...

It would get pretty nasty, that's for sure. But then again, if you could have multiple units instead of the single commander (which would suck for the IG player... My init 4 85 pt commander is attacking with his Str 3 power sword against your...big...Hive Tyrant.)

How about this: multiple CHQs? If we're doing 400 point battles, I think that 4 HSO's with 30 points per CHQ to burn (Power Sword, Storm Bolter, 2 Plasma Guns) might fare alright. It would make sense too, since the Guard would be able to embrace their numerical advantage even in something as this.

CK

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
-- John Stuart Mill
