Simple question (proabably many complex answers): In 1000pts, what are the thoughts on going for Warriors as the HQ choice as opposed to the Tyrant?

I have been playing the Tyranids for quite some time, and I have never used the Warriors as a HQ, but this lower point limit has me considering a leaping/rending/scything 18 wound HQ o' death.

Thoughts?

18 Wounds? Isn't that 9 Warriors? That's pretty much way more points than a Flyrant would be, and my guess is that the flyrant would last longer. If anything a Flyrant with a 2+ Save would be even more devastating in a 1000 point game since they enemy will have far less Lascannons to take shots at it.

Yeah, 9 Warriors might be overkill, especially in 1000pts. 5 might be more reasonable, as it is enough attacks to take down most targets, and durable enough with 10 wounds.

I really wouldn't go with a huge Warrior Unit anyway. 9 warriors, kitted for close combat, are a slow, fragile unit that is going to weigh in at about 270 points minimum. Not so wonderful for a small game. A Flyrant with Warp field(not really necessary if there is enough cover) will cost about 70 or more points less than that if equipped with what it actually needs to fight in hth well. Even in a small game of 1000 points I would take my Flyrant. As a matter of fact, I would ALWAYS do it, as the types of weapos likely to hurt him will be even less common and easier to avoid. Also, a Flyrant will keep up with your fleeting troops much better than a walking one and can smash anything short of a Deamon Prince/Greater Demon/ or Monolith when used properly.

Dakka. You need more of it. No exceptions.

What are you talking about? They're Space Marines, which are heroic. They need to be able to do all the heroic stuff. They fight aliens and don't afraid of anything. -Orkeosarus

A Flying Tyrant is always a better choice than any other Tyranid HQ period.

If you're playing a smaller point game just give the Tyrant Wings and 2x Scything Talons and you're done.

It's dirt cheap and insanely effective at lower point games.

Thanks for the advice all, I have always loved the Hive Tyrant, especially now that I took the time to model a Winged one.
