There are some units available to us, that are close to imballanced if you consider offensive potential alone.

1. Tornados: Cheapest way to field an Assault Cannon - also mobile and a heavy bolter on top.

2. Pred. Annihilator: Cheapest way to get lots of Lascannons - AV13 as a bonus.

The only reason that these are still relatively ballanced, is that they can be silenced a bit easier then the alternatives like Devastators etc.. Non the less they will be extremely strong when you manage to present the opponent a more urgent target.

3. Blood Claws: Cheapest way to get 12 Powerfistattacks on a charge.

The reason that these are still relatively ballanced, is that they are too slow to regularly get a charge going.

Now before you read on: Can you allready tell what completes the combo as it solves all the above problems?

Yep you got it. Its the transport for 10+ Models. While a Landraider Crusader is generally considered a pointsink it might work under the right conditions, especially in smaller games, since here few armys can muster enough guns to take it down in one round. Heres a sample 1250 point tourney army:

Wolfguard Battle Leader, termi, AC, auspex -95 pts
Wolfguard Battle Leader, termi, AC, auspex -95 pts

12 Blood CLaws, 3 Fists - 204 pts
in Landraider Crusader - 265 pts

6 Grey Hunters, Bolters, Plasmagun - 119 pts

Tornado - 80 pts
Tornado - 80 pts
2 Tornado - 160 pts

Pred Annihilator - 145 pts

---------------------------------------------------
1247 pts, 25 models, 7 scoring units

Low modelcount but (as far as I know) unmatched offensive power in this low pointlimit. 7 Assault Cannons (1 twinlinked, 2 BS5), 3 Lascannons (1 twinlinked), 4 Heavy Bolters, 1 Multimelta, 1 Plasmagun, a good amount of Boltershots (including Hurricanes) and last but not least 12 Powerfistattacks on the charge with an effective range of 20" (12" Crusader, 2" disembark, 6" assault).

Please leave a comment if you read this far.^^

Westerville, OH

Who do you know that plays 1250 point games?

Usually you're looking at 1,000, or 1,500. So while I don't disagree iwth your point, is it only an exercise in theoryhammer?

Its the format of the local oneday tourneys. And actually this format is what I like best for casual games too now, because games are rather short (still about 2 hours) and still allow for combined arms.

This said, Im serious about this. I only need to finish few models to give it a try.

The remaining 3 points will propably be invested into a smoke launcher for the crusader.

Hopefully someone will one day try to infiltrate next to my Auspex wielding Wolfguard .

Keep the C&C comming Dakkites.

Hoary Long Fang with Lascannon

Kalamazoo

Or you could field 3 dreads, a wolf guard champion, a vindicator, dual plasma pistol + plasma gun grey hunters in a las razorback and some blood claws walking with the dreads and laugh.

Ven Dread with plasma cannon and heavy flamer: 175
Rune Priest with frost blade, chooser, staff, terminator armor 105
Dread with assault cannon, heavy flamer, xtra armor, venerable, tank hunter 140
Dread with T/W las cannon, heavy flamer, xtra armor,140

6 grey hunters with with plasma rifle, plasma pistols (2) 134
Razorback with t/w lascannons 90

15 bloodclaws with 3 power fists 246
Vindicator 125
Whirlwind 75

Total 1230

With this list I can easily take down everything you have, either in close assault or with shooting. I have two twin linked las cannons and a tank hunting assault cannon for anti vehicle work, plus plenty of plasma and lucky vindicator shots. My bloodclaws will have a 5+ cover save and will have three dreads as backup. I can take down large monsterous creatures with a plasma double tap or send the hunters to claim an objective or table quarter while the whirlwind holds down another. Plus I have about 17 points to go play with for smoke launchers or something.

Hmm, I dont know. Your army doesnt generate much pressure. People can ignore your troops for most of the game and focus fire on the vehicles.

Vindicator and Whirlwind with their templates are pretty unreliable and dont really shine in small games, where a scatter wont likely hit another unit.

The Dreads are strongly overpriced for what they do. 140 points for a Dread with 1 Lascannon is really bad, when you can have the same Lascannon with AV13 for only 5 more points plus 2 little brothers once you dont move (on a Pred anni).

That Rune Priest costs more then 105 pts.

The Razorback for the Hunters suffers from mixed roles. If he moves 6" to keep shooting the transport capability is wasted, moving 12" the shooting is wasted. If you plan to run him solo Id much prefer a Tornado (faster, more durable with glance only, cheaper, more versatile)
