I dont play marines so I dont have the relevant codex..

A marine player at out store wants to know if he can put jump pack marines in a land-raider that was bought as a heavy choice(therefore not a dedicated transport). He says that the entry simply says that the raider can haul five terminators or 10 models in power armor (which assault troops wear). Can this be????

if not, could somebody quote a page number so i can point it out to him?

thanx

I believe the relavent info is on p62 of the BGB under Passenger Capacity, the last sentence is "only infantry may embark in transports". Assault marines with jump packs are jump infantry, they don't qualfy.

Here's an interesting side note:

Assault Marines have the option to remove their Jump Packs, but nowhere does it say they become Infantry, instead of Jump Infantry. So by the raw, they STILL can't use the L.R. :/

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Maybe so, but I would never begrudge my opponent for putting them in a Land Raider. I'll use my common sense test and call them infantry instead of jump infantry.

Thanks droidman, your page number was dead on and crystal clear!

His plan was to put his death company with chaplain in one to get the 11 inch LR move coupled with the 12 inch jump pack move and the six inch assault. Sounded a bit extreme to me so it raised an eyebrow.

Dont forget, you can assault out of a land raider, but you still cant move if the vehicle has moved that turn. Therefore, jump packs would have no benefit over regular walking infantry. Land raider moves 12", disembark 2", assault 6".

Anyone have the tome handy? Under model definition I believe it says SM with power armor are infantry and that SM with jump packs are jump infantry. If tat is the case then an assault marine without jump pack would be infantry and could use the LR.

But if it uses the term SM "Assault squads" are jump infantry then jump pack or not... they can't use the LR.

So, if a person did not take jump packs for their assault marines (which I believe they have the option to do so), then they are effectively moving just like infantry and could gain no bonus whatsoever from the jump infantry rules, you would not allow them to put their foot slogging assault marines in the Land Raider?

Wow, someone takes their game a little too seriously. That is where RAW leads to the absurd.

There is no mention of "jump infantry" in the Assault Marines' unit entry, only "jump packs." The wargear description for jump packs contains the phrase "jump infantry," however. Therefore, Assault Marines sans jump packs are not jump infantry, and may ride in the Land Raider.

Not the unit entry. Look at the section in the back of the rule book about "unit types." That's where they list what units are or are not infantry, jump infantry cavalry, etc...

I'd look myself but I am at work.

The rulebook says 'All Space Marines with Jump Packs' rather than 'Assault Marines'

So without Jump Packs, they're just Infantry, and can ride in Transports.

Insaniak- Thanks. That clears it up.

Greenbloater - Do you get a commission for posting like a jerk? Just wondering.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.
