Anybody from here attending the 40K tourney at Sci-Fi City in Orlando at the end of January?

I am not sure but I believe it is possible that Sci-Fi is planning to use a non-GW sanctioned FAQ (e.g., Yak-FAQ or AdeptIcon) to arbitrate rule based disputes. Probably Mahu could verify this for us. There is also an RTT at COLISEUM OF COMICS in Kissimmee (1750 points) the same day.

Green Bloater is right.

We are using the YakFAQ (with minor revisions) to settle rules disputes at this event. The order we are following is:

Rulebook
Games Workshop FAQ
YakFAQ

So any rules dispute will follow along those lines. I know useing "non-sanctioned" FAQ can generate some attitudes, but the tournament has been riddled with constant rules disputes, don't you think it is better that we have a FAQ to judge them, especially one that has been compiled and debated on this very board.

In addition, this event will tie into our "Battle for Orlandus Prime" campaign event. So players who are building their characters will have additional objectives to accomplish.

I would like to stress though that you do no have to be registered in the campaign to participate in this event.

This RTT will also impliment new scenarios that the club has been developing. All scenarios have been playtested. They follow closely with the Adepticon system, so Victory Points may not be a winning factor for the mission every time.

So I highly recommend attending (of coarse I would), you won't have the hassle of constant rules disputes, and you will be challenged more tactically than an RTT using years old Games Workshop Scenarios.

The YakFAQ is well respected. Might be a good idea to come up with a method for out-of-town players to know this in advance so they can properly prepare. New missions also sounds like a lot of fun as the ancient RTT missions fro GW have grown a bit stale.

As long as you guys aren't doing that hostage rescue scenario again.....That was the most poorly written and confusing mission that i think GW has EVER put out...

Could somebody post the link to the yakfaq. The only one i can find with the search is the one where Yak compiled a list of questions, but no answers...

Here it is! The one change we are going to make is that Armored Company can take any allies they want and they don't need to be mounted, as the rules specifically say so. As you can tell, the YakFAQ doesn't differ to much from the Adepticon FAQ, but the YakFAQ is easier to read.

See you Saturday!

Here is additional information about the tournament that I wanted to give you guys a heads up.

The total points will be 1850 using the Standard Force Organization Chart.

Imperial Armor is allowed, however you need a copy of the rules to show your opponent. However, Flyers and Super-Heavies are not allowed.

All printed codex's are allowed as well as any list or chapter approved item that can be found on Games Workshop's Website (which includes Armored Company, Kroot Mercs, Feral Orks, Lost and the Damned, etc.)

Scratch-built vehicles and conversions are allowed, however we ask for Imperial Armor units that you field the actual Forge World model. If you want to represent an Imperial Armor unit with a scratch build, be wary.  These will be monitored by the Sci-Fi judges, not the club, so I cannot gauruntee that you can use them.

We will be implementing a new scoring system, details can be found on our club's forums, here: http://orlando40k.3.forumer.com/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=209

This event will tie into our larger event. A campaign called "Battle for Orlandus Prime". On each scenario will be a condition that a players campaign character can meet to gain extra wargear. This condition will not effect the conditions for victory and if you are not playing in the campaign, you can simply ignor them. Players in the campaign that have earned this special wargear will not be able to use them in this event as it would be unfair to those that wish to not participate in the campaign. However if you wish to join the campaign, you may register with either myself or Capt. K before the event. Registration in the campaign is ten dollars and you recieve a 25 page campaign book containing the background, rules, and character sheets needed for the campaign.

SIgn-in starts at 11:00 a.m. with Dice promptly rolling at 12:00.

Thanks, and I hope to see you all there.

I am wondering out loud if this is really a good idea. Ancient stuff like Solar Machirus and the Red Terror should not be allowed in my opinion. The rules for the Emperor's Champion are still on the GW website and it says that it can be included as an HQ choice in a Space Marine army. We all know its a Black Templar unit but according to the GW website it really seems to insinuate that it can be used in other Space Marine armies.

My motto for any tournament open to the general public is no surprises for someone attending from outside the local area.

Green Bloater, thanks for pointing that out, I didn't realize those rules where still on the GW website.

Well. how about as a general rule, if you can play it in a Games Workshop Grand Tournament, you can play it in our tournament.

Poisonrogue, are you from the Goblin Shoppee. If so a few of us have been down there before but not for a while now. You will be able to spot me easy, I am the one who will be registering people for the campaign, don't be afraid to say hi!

Well Imperial Armor is not allowed in GTs and the game designers for imperial armor are not exactly known for writing rules that are properly tested and often are broken in a good way or bad way. The Metiotic Spore comes to mind and a few others that I cant remember off the top of my head.

What is the ruling when it does come to dropping Metiotic Spores when it comes to placement and its detonation and etc?

It usually easier to not include imperial armor

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.

Well, Imperial Armor is a mixed bag.

Some things are extremely good, like Griffon with special shells, etc.

Some are not so good (I am payig how many points for an upgraded Piranah with almost the same fire power, huh?)

I like to included them because some armies (Imperial Gaurd) can be more competitive with their lists if they field some IA units. Some do get a little more broken (Tyranids), but overall I don't think it makes that much of an impact. The player has to own the actual ForgeWorld models, and show you the rules before the game, so the opponent knows what do look for.

As far as the ruling on Metiotic Spores, Capt. K discussed it with the judges at Sci-Fi and they are going to allow Deepstrikeing on units. Basically the rules say that you can't place a spore mine within 1" of a unit, but the spore mine rules say you ignor that, so they can target a sqaud to try and deep strike on. I would like to note though that the Spores the Metiotic Spores generate when they die, cannot do anything until the next turn, so you don't have the extremely lame "I drop a big spore on you, do lot's of damage, then I generate more spores that do even more damage". If you are really worried about it, I wouldn't. I only know one person who owns them, and he is not playing in the tournament.

Another update is that in the link to our forums I provided earlier, there are a few things you might want to see if you plan on participating. First is the scoring system in place. And after a lively discussion about Compositional scores and whether or not they should be in a tournament, we posted the 6 missions that we generated. Of those 6 missions, 3 will be in the event. But that gives you a heads up on what to expect.

I hate to say it but deep striking onto an enemy unit just comes across as wrong.

If you want a fluff explanation, the whole reason they are coming via Deepstrike is because they are lobbed at you, not teleporting.

It's natural forsomething to feel "wrong" if it breaks the normal rules conventions. The Monolith is a prime example, I have not heard the cries against it stop. How many ways does Tau have around Night fighting again?

Bottom line is that Deepstrikers can target anywhere on the table as the start of their Deepstriking, normally if they came within 1" of an enemy unit they die. Which is why, of course that nobody ever targeted a unit with Deepstrikers. Spore mines specifficultly say they ignor the 1" rule.

It may not feel right, but what would be the point in taking them if you couldn't deepstrike onto a unit? the worst that they do is the same results as Indirect Ordanace, etc. And they can only do that once for 65 points, sure they can throw around a few spore mines, but they can't do anything unit the next turn.
