While Trolls are my main Hordes beatstick faction, the Skorne are really growing on me as a little beast-heavy side project (along with a Baldur 'golem' army, but that's for another day).

I was thinking something like this @ 500
Morghul
Cyclops x2
Titan Gladiator
Drake
Min paingivers
max paingivers
min Praetorians.

21 figs, 20 VPs

That's what I'm chewing on right now. Morghul seems to be a good beast leader and the combination of Cyclopses and paingivers (or titan and paingivers) just seems abusive (pardon the pun). The Drake serves as bodyguard and to set up nice back-arc charges, and the praetorians are there mostly for fun.

C&C most welcome!

Heh. I am thinking about Skorne as well... although, the candy that tempts my taste buds is:

ARM 16 Cataphract Cetari
ARM 20 Cataphract Cetari with Shieldwall
ARM 22 Cataphract Cetari with Shieldwall and Makeda
ARM 24!!! (vs shooting) Cataphract Cetari with Shieldwall, Makeda and a Basilisk Krea...

With 5 damage boxes each, that's pretty damn near invincible.

Expensive $-wise, but effective. Quite possibly what Khador IFP are really supposed to be (or some monstrous hybrid of IFP and MOW ST).

I personally perfer the IFP, mostly because of the speed 6 and all-terrain charge at +5 with UA.  Crit knockdown is just gravy.  That and you can kick out more attacks, since they cost about 1/2 what the Cetari cost.

That said, there's no substitute for good ARM and multiple boxes.  These guys will be a bugger to destroy in shieldwall, even though they are cheaper and have less boxes than the MOW STs.

I think an ideal army for me would be:  (don't have the points handy)

Makeda
Titan Canonneer (the diminish animus is very tasty!)
Basilisk Krea
Full Preatorians
Full Cetari
Ancestral Guardian
Min Paingivers if I can fit it.

Terrain can be a real issue for these guys, though. Especially against things like Seraphs and Wardens who basically ignore it to fling poo at you. Sure, defender's ward makes those Cet hosses, but that doesn't keept Seraphs from riddling your praets , paingivers, or bassy full of holes. And things like the Warden animus make it hard to close in.

Also, two handers like WarpWolves, Maulers, and Gladiators can do some nasty things throwing models around. That Cannoneer, for example, will KD anything in the list and even the Krea or Cet will KD the warlock. And KD really neuters Savagery, since it prevents you from running.

On the first list, it is a surprisingly fast beat down list. I would probably only go with 1 unit of max paingivers, though, and add more praets for bodies/tie up/anti-infantry or smoke gobbers for LOS denial.

That's along the lines I was thinking. Plus Swamp Gobbers are just too good for the points.

I guess my question is: how many paingivers do you need with 4 beasts? Can individual paingivers do their thing to multiple beasts, and how far strung out can I keep everyone before it becomes a hassle?

I've had a blast with using Hex and the core gang from the Skorne boxed set.

Simple is more, sometimes. Especially with good ol' Hex at the helm.

Start in Seattle then hike across the sound.

Id recomend dropping a few paingivers for some extra praetorians as well. You don't need an army of paingivers as they just hang back. 2 minimal units should be plenty. Morghoul is fine if you know how to use him. I can honestly say that I don't very well yet. He'll be especially handy with the bronzeback comming out soon.
