there's a three week league at my FLGS, it's 750pts and the other five players are Feral Orks, Sisters, Necrons, Eldar, and IG.  I have three basic options for what to take, so I'll list all three, and feel free to recommend/comment on any of them as you see fit:

Option 1: IG gunline:

Doctrines:
COD
Sharpshooters
Iron Discipline
Drop Troops

JO w/ ID and power weapon, standard
Fire Support w/ 3 Autocannons, SS
Fire Support w/ 3 Heavy Bolters, SS

JO w/ ID, power weapon, Flamer x4
Squad w/ Missile & Plasma
Squad w/ Missile & plasma

JO w/ ID, Missile, Plasma x2
Squad w/ Autocannon & Plasma
Squad w/ Autocannon & Plasma

This army would sit still, using the two command sections as counter charge.  I've added as many autocannons as I have since they're better at lower point values, and do remarkably well vs. Non-meqs.

Option 2: Space Marine Fire team

Master of Sanctity, Jump pack, Honors, Bolt pistol, frag

6 man Las/plas
8 man Las/plas

3 Tornados in seperate squadrons

Predator destructor w/ heavy bolters, smoke

this army is much more mobile, able to pour enough fire power into any given squad to most likely break it.  the chaplain is a good HtH power at low points, although dedicated assault troops can wear him down.

Option 3: Dark Eldar Horde

Archon, Punisher, helm, shadow field, drugs

10 warriors w/ 2 Lances and 2 blasters
10 warriors w/ 2 Lances and 2 blasters
14 warriors w/ 2 Lances and 2 blasters, sybarite w/ agonizer
20 warriors w/ 2 splinter cannons and 2 blasters, sybarite w/ agonizer

With a high model count, tons of accurate splinter fire, 6 lances and 8 blasters, this army can outshoot nearly anything at 750pts.  the archon is kept on foot to stay a countercharge threat, as he can fleet and move 12" to assault with drugs.  The archon is a combat monster, swinging first and often.

Any thoughts?  I'm currently leanign towards Dark Eldar, as they're a forgotten army and a ton of fun to play.

You should nix option 1, I see no consistent answer for a monlith if you face necrons.

I say Dark Eldar too, for the two reasons you listed and because I think it would make an already cool mix of armies even better. Very refreshing to see no marine list in there, and the two MEQ lists aren't so bad at all - Sisters are always awesome, and 'Crons would have low enough numbers at low points to offset inherent cheesiness

Good luck with the league, sounds like a lot of fun. Only list comment I have on the foot-sloggin' DEldar is that every army you're facing is hypothetically firepower-based, even those BS3 FOrks o_O ... but I'm guessing you're prepared to lose models in droves, hence the largish squads.

Necrons @ 750 points is Lord (100) + 20 Warriors (360) base, so a monolith added in there gives only 55 points left to get res orb and such for the lord.  I'd be more than happy to fight a 'lith 'cron force at that level, as phase out is nasty

yeah, that's the calculation I made. I think that my Marine force is actually the strongest, but the Dark Eldar have a lot of punch. Plus, the archon is a beast. I'm going to need to do some painting, to make sure I have stuff to actually play, whereas the Marines are good to go.

I like the Dark Eldar too, my statement was just hypeathetical about the monolith.
