Just saw a poster at the local shop for a game called Battlefield Evolution by Mongoose Publishing. Looked like a modern-era 40k-scale skirmish game with prepainted figures. Certainly not pro-level painting or anything, but they looked better than most prepainted stuff I've seen...they even appear to be based to some degree. Just curious if anyone has seen the rules or figures and could comment further on it. Seemed kind of interesting.

Searchy will bring you a lot of information on the game that's already been posted.

Thought I could add some of the newer piccies of the Special Forces for Battlefield: Evolution... Here would be EFTF British SAS: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/product_images/full_size/bfesasproto.jpg And heres USMC Force Recon: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/product_images/full_size/bfeusmcfrecon.jpg These I believe show that Mongoose is obviously upping their pace and adding cooler, new models to the mix...

The sculpting for the models for BE is just third rate.
I mean I know they are counting on the "play straight from the box" factor, but those crappy, inanimate poses and dodgy paint jobs just don't scream "buy me" like other things that demand my attention.
Mongoose have to up their game considerably if they are going to get any of my paycheck into their coffers!

I completely disagree. I think they look great, and look like what they are supposed to represent, and actually have some variations in pose. Which is more than I can say for the other pre-painted line from Rakham.
This game could be shaping up to be alot of fun!

While I think the miniatures are uninspired, I am looking forward to the rules. The Starship Trooper rules were very fun to play, and the BF: Evo rules are supposed to be the next level. Mongoose has a couple of teaser downloads available in the 'upcomming releases' section.

These look good but are very stiff and static in comparison to AT-43. I am not saying AT-43 is the best in poses, but compared these models, I would have to go with Rackham.

Yeah, I'm more anxious for the rules than the models (though actually I like the squiffy scale tanks they've got coming - and especially those toyato hiluxes). Odds on I'm just going to use entire armies of proxies - I'm thinking some of these guys http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/order.htm#

Pretty much all of the rules are already available on Mongoose's website (and those that aren't are at least hinted at in posts on their forums). They are very close to the current SST rules, but a bit more simplistic (though amazingly not at the cost of strategic gameplay). I don't know if you guys know much about the SST rules already (which are the easiest terms to describe the BF:Evo terms in), but they really are a lot of fun and make for much more strategic games than 40k IMHO (It is rumored that Andy C. left to make SST because it is how he wanted to make 40k, but wasn't allowed to). SST: Evo is also due out later this year, and should have similar (but slightly more detailed) rules. So, if anyone wants some more info on the rules, I'll dig some info up for you... Just tell me what game terms to relate it to... SST or 40k.
