Ok, the fiim is not even out yet !, but I love the look of the trailer, and decided to create an army based on the imagery of the film & graphic novel. I will be using them as Khorne Berserkers (the colour scheme seems to fit, and they are all gonna have C/C weapons) I have started work on the first squad, with 4 figures completed, 3 in progress and the Aspiring Champion waiting for bits. The Aspiring Champion will be more 'Spartan' looking, as he will have a cape, round shield & crested helmet. Anyway on to some pics: Close ups: And here are the bases (which will be cast) I may go with the 'War Rhino' idea for Dreadnoughts !! Cheers

Looking a bit more Norse Berzerker of Doom then Spartan Warrior of Awesome, but that takes nothing away from how badass these guys are! I really like where things are right now, and I also like that they aren't recognizably 'Spartan 300' either. Definitely looking forward to more of this level, love the chain-glaives too. The war rhino would be sweet as well - FW rhinox cav or scratchbuilt? - Boss Salvage EDIT: The more I look at them, the more I get the Spartan-esque look over the Norse-y look, mostly as the latter would have furs and such and these are lean, mean killing machines. If I get the bitz together I'd consider bashing some of my own together, been meaning to make powerpants + marauder torsos for some time, just needed some heads

Haha! Those a freaking fantastic! I love 'em, great poses on the whole lot, especially the two-axes guy, those are great. I think the 300 site has a bunch of new stills from the upcoming flick along with comparison shots of the original art work from Miller's graphic novel.
Are you going to be putting shields on these guys? I'm certain several historicals manufactures based in the UK make packs of 10 or so round Sparta shields for a couple pounds (I can't think of any similar shields available via GW that are both rounded/dome shaped and available separately in any quantity)

Do not use the CLEAR dice!
Dear Whiny Space Marine Players, you get 3+ armor saves on all your troops (save scouts), Assault cannons, a huge assortment of vehicles and weapons, arguably one of the best if not THE best tank in the game, funny helmets, and a partrige in a pear tree.
suck it up, space marines. You're the emperor's chosen superhuman warriors. stop whining like a guardsmen and take it like a superman! |

as models, these are way cool, but two minor logic problems: - 3+ saves from bare chests? Maybe solved by wrtiting some fluff re armoured bionic skeletons or whatever... Or shoulder pads, but that would spoil the current look - no backpacks? Again, they would spoil the look, but why don't these marines need backpacks when all the others do? If the whole bionic barbarian thing appeals to you, maybe you could try something like vents imbedded in their backs...

Very nice.
Definitely worth picking up some packs of those shields Nyarly mentioned. Nothing says Sparta more than the shields.
I would imagine he'd throw on shoulder pads and/or shields later. Leaving the backpack off would keep the lean and mean look, even with the addition of pads / shields to rep the save better.

Ancient Greek hoplite warfare was very ritual and very little emphasis was put on ranged weapons or mobility. The reason the Spartans were so superior was their discipline. As a solid unit, on good ground with disciplined troops the phalanx as a very superior formation as Alexander would prove again conquering Persia. Its an awesome idea, but its not gonna fit wysiwyg rules completely because its just from a different period, which takes nothing away from the beautiful job he's done. To give them a real "formation" look I'd give them slightly less individual poses to more resemble the scene with them all locked together. I'd also give them all chain spears as you have, though they'd look even more pikish if you extended the length by 50-100%. I know this makes them look unwieldly, but they were very rarely individual fighters, it was the formation that was their chief success. Giving them each a red cloak on one shoulder would also really add to the look. Shields would be nice, but aren't required as since coherensy rules are different you're not going to the the shield lock look anyways. My hat goes off to you sir, a wonderful adaptation of an excellent graphic novel. I may just want to try the same thing after seeing the movie.
"Go tell the Spartans, passerby, that here, by Spartan law, we lie."

Nice models, but not too sure about the whole barbarian look. Given that the word meant anyone who was non-Hellenic, it seems a tad inappropriate. But the models are still awesome. Edit: just saw a clip, and the film portrays Spartans as bloodthirtsy brutes. In which case, my above point is less valid. So much for Laconicism, Leonidas seems to shout most of his lines.
