There's a 1850 point, all gamma level tournament coming up, and I've been trying to come up with a slightly different list to mix things up a bit.  I'm wondering how this IG list might fare?

Doctrines: Jungle Fighters, Drop Troops, Vets, Special Weapon Squads, Iron Discipline

HQ  235
JO, ID, 4 plasma gunners
SWS with demo charge, 2x melta guns
SWS with demo charge, 2x melta guns

Elites  225
3 vets squads, 5 vets with 3 plasma guns

Troops
JO, ID, 4 plasma gunners  275
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer

JO, ID, 4 plasma gunners  275
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer

JO, ID, 4 plasma gunners  275
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer

JO, ID, 4 plasma gunners  275
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer

JO, ID, 4 plasma gunners  275
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer

The jungle fighters/heavy flamers combo seems like the best way to address the problem horde armies would otherwise present.  I could drop the special weapons squads to get close order drill, which would be nice, but the demo charge and meltas are handy for the occasional landraider I see.  I think it should work fairly well against normal lists, but an extreme list (all landraiders, armor company that sits in the corner) could cause problems.  I could swap plasma guns out for meltas, but they deviate out of that 6" sweet spot so much, I usually feel plasma towards read/side armor works better.

I considered medics for the HQs, or maybe dropping ID and upgrading squads to get vet sgts with plasma pistols, but neither seemed as efficient as what I've got now.

Curious if there are any players out there with/faced successful drop IG, and what they think.

Looks solid like all of your lists Grimaldi.  It might have a hard time dealing with a castled army as you pointed out. The inclusion of a basilisk might not be fluffy, but would prevent the enemy from being able to pile up in one corner and shoot your people as they land.  Using a screen of disposeable infantry to force your drop troops to deploy further back from the heavy hitters, could mean you spend too long wading through bodies before you get to use the plasma guns the way you want.  That said, I bet this list would destroy my Mech Eldar.    I would be interested in playing a game against either this list or the one you posted previously.  PM me if you feel like taking either list for a spin.

looks reasonably solid, though I'd swap two of the plasma guns out for meltas, just to give you a little more AT punch

Well, the problem with this list is trying to get the the figures.  I don't have 46 plasma guns and 10 heavy flamers laying around, but I like IG, and if this concept seems feasible, it might be something to shoot for.

Castled armies will be annoying, but assuming my opponent doesn't know what kind of list I have (just IG) he could be in for a bit of a surprise.  If I do bring it to a tournament, and it does well the first couple of rounds, though, the later opponents will know what's coming.

I love basilisks, and wouldn't mind adding one or two even if it goes against the theme. My bigger concern is that those units might be the only things I have on the board for 1 or 2 of my opponent's turns.  With enemy infiltration and such, they might be sitting ducks for many, many enemy armies.  Still, they only cost 125 points...could still be worth it to break up the enemy army or force him to infiltrate a few isolated unit that I can drop in on.

I'd swap all the plasmas in the infantry squads for meltas, and then switch the meltas in the Special Weapons Teams for flamers.

I'm curious to hear you reasoning for this approach.  I can see swapping some, but all seems a bit extreme.  I have to assume most squads that drop in won't survive more than a turn, at least at first, so I need to pack as much firepower as I can into the squads, and plasma seems to fit the bill.  Some extra melta may help for AT, but I'm not sure what the right amount is.

I'm also curious on your special weapons team reasoning.  I guess I had envisioned it for AT purposes, and you're looking at it as more of an anti-troop system?  Perhaps, especially if the right enemy squads are around, although currently I have plenty of anti-personnel, both light (heavy flamers) and heavy (plasma).

Mixing it up a little from Samwise's comments, I guess I'd drop the special weapon teams and take close order drill, while giving the vets melta instead of plasma for my serious AT. Take a plasma gun away from each platoon HQ, and I've got enough points for the to basilisks. Man, it feels wrong already, thinking about sticking two basilisks up and nothing else. Really, though, who wouldn't rush forward to try and take them out? And that's really what I want, so maybe it's for the best. So, something more like this:

Doctrines: Jungle Fighters, Drop Troops, Vets, Close order drill, Iron Discipline

HQ 45
JO, ID

Elites 225
3 vets squads, 5 vets with 3 melta guns

Troops
JO, ID, 3 plasma gunners 265
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer

JO, ID, 4 plasma gunners 265
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer

JO, ID, 4 plasma gunners 265
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer

JO, ID, 4 plasma gunners 265
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer

JO, ID, 4 plasma gunners 265
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer
Squad with plasma gun, jungle fighters and heavy flamer

Heavy 250

I'd like to give the company HQ something, at least a standard, but I hate having platoons different (for a variety of reasons). Not critical, but it would be nice.

I might.  I'm not sure if I'll have something going on that weekend or not.  I'd like to but I'd like to use my Chaos Army, and I need to get some more practive using it at 1850pts.  I'm working on a nasty daemon bomb list.  I'll post it when I put it together.

The only thing that I think could make this list "better", would be to mount everyone in Valkyries.

If ur worried about ur basilisks being toast early on, add some sentinels to provide some support for 'em, might not be much, but its better than nothing
