A quick, unofficial (so far) FAQ from Jervis on his Codex, courtesy of this thread on the B&C: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are my answers to some of the questions I've received about the Dark Angel Codex. Although not an official FAQ it should help until the real thing appears on the GW website. Q: Can a Dark Angel choose to use their Bolt Pistol instead of another weapon they are carrying? For example, could a Dark Angel with a Bolter or a Heavy Bolter choose to fire their Bolt Pistol instead? If they fire the Bolt Pistol once may they assault? A: Yes to all questions. Q: If I split a Tactical Squad into two Combat Squads, can both use any dedicated transport vehicle that was purchased for the unit? Or do I have to assign the vehicle to one of the Combat Squads? A: Either Combat Squad is allowed to use the transport, but they cannot both use it at the same time because they are no longer a single unit. (Only one unit is allowed to use a transport vehicle at a time; see the rules for Transport Vehicles in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook). Q: Tactical Squads can take a Razorback as a transport. But since you can have 5 or 10 man squads, can you take a Razorback regardless of the Squad size? For example, can you take a Razorback with a 10 man squad and then put a combat squad in it or just use it as a rolling weapon platform for the squad? A: Yes to all questions. Q: Can troops that take a Drop Pod as a dedicated transport vehicle set up in it in reserve? A: Yes they can (along with any Independent Characters that have joined the unit and can fit in the vehicle). They must enter play in the Drop Pod, disembarking as described in the Drop Pod unit entry, and counting as a Deep Striking unit on the turn they arrive (so they can shoot but not assault). Note that one reserve roll is made each turn to see if the Drop Pod arrives, and if it does so then all embarked units must enter play with it. Q: Some of the upgrades in the army list are not represented by models in the Citadel range. For example, there is no model for Belial, or an Apothecary in Terminator armour. How do I represent these models? A: The Dark Angel army list includes several units that are not represented by existing models in the Citadel Range (at least at the time of writing!) Therefore you will need to find a suitable stand-in, and in some cases you will have to convert a model to show that it is carrying the piece of equipment, as all models in an army must be Œwhat you see is what you get¹. For example, Belial can easily be represented by a Terminator Captain model, but you will have to convert a Terminator into an Apothecary. Q: In the Dark Angels Codex quite a few characters have Iron Halos. In Codex Space Marines these are limited to one per army. Does this limit apply to the Dark Angels too? A: No it doesn¹t. It is also possible to take more than one Company Banner should you wish to. Q: Some squads allow 'any number of models' to carry meltabombs. How can I tell which models have the meltabombs and which not? A: Meltabombs are provided in the plastic sets that we make (see the armoury section of Codex Dark Angels for a picture of what they look like). Any miniature you have modeled with a meltabomb must take the upgrade if they are allowed to do so; conversely any miniature not carrying a meltabomb may not be given the upgrade. Best regards, Jervis Johnson ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nothing too unexpected in there, aside from the characters in Drop Pods thing, which contradicts the rulebook FAQ.

Meltabombs have to be modeled on, and have a specific model? What about us Chaos players, who have no sprue with meltabombs? (at least that I know) Do I have to buy them from BWBits or buy whole sprues?

Keep in mind when you are a GW employee (and especially one of the GW "celebrities") such things are free for the taking and as such they rarely if ever take into consideration the costs it takes to update ones existing army after they retconned some WYSIWYG requirement. You can do what I do and model your guys with lots of pouches and just say the melta bombs (and whatever else) is in there. I find it amusing that 10 man squads can now buy Razorbacks, which will now allow 5 man las/ plas squads to sit back and plink away while the vet sgt. & four robed buds can race forward (or whatever) in the R-back. Plus "unlimited" Iron Halos and Chapter Banners! Woo!

good to see the drop pod issue resolved quickly.
I wonder why this wasnt done for the eldar codex, as there seems to be just as many, if not more rules issues there as well.

Isn't it obvious? Nobody cares as much about the Eldar codex, it was made shoddy and will be treated as the trash that it is. That and they obviously had incompetent writers put the thing together who cannot possibly answer such easy and simple questions in a manner so eloquently as Jervis. But really, not a single person at GW gives a rat's ass how crappy the Eldar codex is, or how ironic it is that GW employees are allowed to answer such questions about a book that concerns marines while continuing to ignore all other armies that are in so much more need of attention...

JMHO You could not be more wrong. Eldar are the single nastiest race in the game. I mean come on the Falcon when tricked out only has like a one in 250 percent chance of being killed by a las canon? They are horrific theres no other way to put it. Ill take them against any army and not flinch ever. Of course ive played eldar since around 1990 or so. But i must admit this is my favorite eldar codex short of the folly that was in the back of the compendium. But that was more broken than anything ive ever seen GW make bar none.

The new eldar codex is awesome. The DA codex is quite rank to be honest when compared to the Space Marine codex. I just found out that MotRW on a jetbike is not an independent chararacter... he can easily be picked out and shot down like a dawg. I have no desire to play DA anymore.

He isn't THAT easy to shoot down.
I love the DA book. It feels more like the DA than they ever have. Now, in comparison to the over tricked out Space Marine book, yes most pales in comparison. I also do believe it is going to get neutered in the future....
The new DA book is very nice. Hard to make decisions and everything fits like a puzzle.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. |

The jetbike holds up far better than the speeder. One las canon=speeder gone. One las canon and jetbike takes a wound???? He cannot fight in cc with the speeder he can on the jetbike. Not to mention NOT being a independent charactor helps a great deal in cc.
i like both but the cool factor and the cc ability makes it well worth taking jetbike.
The Dark angels codex is awesome. Obviously not the sm codex but its not meant to be. And its so differant and powerful. D@mn its almost beardy. Toss in the inquisitor and the culexus assassin with ezekial and watch as a bloodthirster is removed from the game. Or any other big baddy that has a LD.

For the moment, I would only apply it to DAs, as the Rulebook FAQ already says to do it differently for everyone else.
The DA answer does make sense within the DA's army structure, where even Command Squads are seperate units to the ICs... so if this sort of set-up continues for other armies, I wouldn't be too surprised to see the rulebook FAQ changed eventually.

Of all the questions they asked why did they not ask if you can assault out of a drop pod on the turn it arrives? I don't believe you can, I would just like an official word to shut up all the cheese mongers that are watering at the mouth in anticipation of what they see as a loophole. Wulfy
