I'm looking at an IG SAFH for an upcoming tournament, and trying to run the various metagame scenarios through my head.  I recall reading an IG player's post from somewhere bragging about using inquisitors to get the emperor's tarot into his army so he had a good chance of going first.

That seemed a decent idea, as I have several infiltrating heavy weapons in my list, so I might risk some bold deployment for a shot at stationary enemy armor at the beginning of the game.  What wasn't mentioned, however, was using the inquisitor to bring along a psychic hood.  I haven't seen this used in many IG lists, but it seems a small price to pay to protect yourself from all the nasty psychic powers out there.  Am I missing something?

Playing around with armybuilder, it seems like the cost for an HQ inquisitor with Tarot and hood is about 80 points (plus some for weapons?). Again, pretty small potatoes for 1850-2000 point games, but it seems extremely useful.  I don't own the DH book (or WH, although it seems those Inquisitors get different wargear?), but if the feedback is positive, I might have to pick it up and model a quick Inquisitor.

The hood can nullify all the marine powers, eldar powers, etc....what about things like tyranid warp blast?  I've never used one before, or worried about facing one (Tau, IG player), so I'm unfamiliar with it, but it seems like a no-brainer for a tournament setting?

it works fantasticly!

Take an inquisitor, tarrot, psychic hood and three mystics. I stole the setup from Darrian13 who posts here as well, and it is a great utility unit.

the mystics allow you to shoot incoming deepstrikers, the hood counters eldar and libbys, and the tarrot gives you a 60/40 chance of going first.

I think he is totally worth the points, plus you can take an assasin as well if you need to.

anyway, play with it and see how you like it. hope that helps.

@ Grimaldi: If your opponent has to make a psychic check, as with the S10 AP2 portion of Warp Blast, it can be Hooded.

Math sure can come in handy!
