If a Chaos Lord takes a bike (wargear) and upgrades it to carry a meltagun, then:

- Does the meltagun cost towards wargear or weapons?

- Can the Lord still take another double handed weapon?

You're upgrading the weapon on the bike... but how that effects other weapons on wargear is a good question.

Off the top of my head, I would say that the CSM IC would still be able to purchase a two handed weapon since the Meltagun is coming from the rules on the Bike itself and not from the "Two Handed Weapons" section of the armory.

Can you D.I.G. it?

It would cost towards Wargear. You are taking a Wargear Item and increasing the cost of said Item. Therefore any points you spend on a Wargear Item counts towards your Wargear limit.

Can the Lord still take another double handed weapon?

Yes. I believe you are looking at it backwards. The bike doesn't takeup any "hands" except the one required to stear it. Because the bike has it's own weapons has no bearing on what the character can field in his other hand. The character doesn't loose his ability to take a 2-handed weapon just because the Bike has Combi-bolters, so why should he loose that ability for an upgraded bike?

I don't see that as generally Game breaking, he can still only fire one weapon anyways. And most Chaos Lords would rather field the CC weapons availible to them.

Agreed. The Meltagun is part of the wargear option of a bike. It would count towards his wargear allowance, but not his weapons.

How can you take a meltagun? If an IC takes a bike as wargear, that's it. Isn't it? There isn't a listing for bike upgrades in the wargear section. The lord could take a combi-melta, but that's it.

It would be like if a marine IC took terminator armour and upgraded to an assault cannon because terminators have that option in their respective army list entry.

I don't have any books in front of me so maybe I am wrong here, but I don't think so.

In the chaos codex, under the bike entry (when bought as wargear), it allows you to upgrade the twin bolters on the bike to a plasmagun or meltagun.

That'd be an interesting upgrade to make standard for all bike/attack bike units, loyalist and chaos. It'd sure make me want to take some more Attack Bikes.
