Okay; I've killed two Xbox 360's now. Or rather; I think Capcom has killed both my 360's. Dead Rising killed the first, Lost Planet the second... It's been almost a month since the latest in my 360s has suffered the red lights of death. It all starts with a grinding noise as my discs start to spin that comes and goes, fades in and out. Then eventually one day it goes up in pitch and the thing will start to crash. Game screens will freeze and I'll have to restart the console. Anyone know what the deal is? My latest call to customer support was met with a LOT more questions then my first. Anyone else been through multiples of these things. My old regular Xbox is still faithfully chugging away and I've yet to have a problem with it. I don't think it's the power supply (I plug it in RIGHT to the wall like I've heard suggested) or overheating (it's all on its own, and I've tried standing and laying down). Are these things just so crap that they die this often? I'd like to know. If my next one dies the same way; I don't know if Microsoft will even replace it...

That does suck... my 360 has been running faithfully since Feb '06 and I've played both the games that you mentioned.

Your 360 has caught some kind of STD. Time to lop off those male connectors.

Man, you are a mild case. I'm waiting for my FOURTH 360 in the mail(if it ever shows up, UPS takes weeks for 2 day shipments). You know, they don't repair yours, or send you a new one. They send you a refurbished old system someone else sent in months before. That means that chances are you are getting a refurbished, launch edition plastic brick. All I can say is, expect it to happen again. Mine have crashed when: 1. I plugged it in, mint right out of the box. 2. Attempting to connect to Chromehounds Online 3. Playing Gears of War Online.

I coun't myself relatively lucky, I've heard of people on their sixth and seventh.... scary stuff. Although, I personally know a guy whose launch 360 hasn't faulted yet.

I put all my electronic gear on UPSs (Uninterruptible Power Supplies). This prevents the number one cause of electronics damage, brownouts. (For those who don't know, a brownout is when the voltage drops some, but not all the way to zero). It's worth the extra $60-$100 to help protect your gear, and it's not like you need it to run all your stuff for a long time, just long enough to ride out the temporary problem. I recommend the APC brand; I've used their stuff for 15 years and had no problems. You can get 'em at Best Buy in the computer section.

I got mine back in early 06. I've had one problem with it, and that was with Oblivion, but a few months later it was completely fine again. Sorry to hear your having so many problems.
My Xbox took a dive about a month after the 360 was released. Convenient for Microsoft methinks...

Oblivion has a Cache memory clearing glitch that (I think) Live has now fixed. If it reoccurs just hold A down as the game loads which was a failsafe they built in to manually clear cache memory as the game booted.
My 3rd 360 has now arrived... and the motor already has a touch of a whine to it (it's NOISY). I just don't know... but Crachdown is definately worth the wait.

That happened to me. You'll notice that you can play all day long with XBLA, but once you start trying to play a disk (DVDs too) you crash. The reason is that some of the DVD drives fail well before they should. All 360s have a 1 year warranty now (retroactive). It will take about 3 weeks to get your replacement. Oh... and I received my original box repaired. Just tell Support that the DVD player is bad, and what you have done to verify this: Happens to all disks. Happens to DVDs. Disks play fine in other consoles. Only happens when the disk is used (XBLA is fine). Support should know about this, so if you satisfy their questions they'll get you fixed up. Good luck.

I'm still on my first 360 (Feb '06) but I also have all my electronics on a UPS. Perhaps you guys having problems should write some letters to Microsoft and see if they'll replace your troubled units with a new 360 Elite!! Hopefully the Elite's have better DVD drives.
