Subject: The New Deathwing - 2000 pts.

Here is a list I made using the new Dark Angels Codex. I though I would see what a non-ravenwing, deathwing list would look like: Beliel, Master of the Deathwing w/ Lightning Claws = 130 ptz. Deathwing Terminator Squad w/ all Lighting Claws and Deathwing Standard = 240 pts. x5 Deathwing Terminator Squad w/ Assault Cannon = 245 pts. (1225 pts.) x2 Venerable Dreadnoughts w/ Heavy Flamer in Drop Pod = 200 pts. (400 pts.) Total = 1995 pts. Thats 30 Terminators, 7 Assault Cannons, and every terminator within 12" of the standard has a base 3 attacks, Belial runs with the lightnig clawed squad, he gets 6 attacks on the charge, each terminator gets 5 on the charge. Of course no Teleport homers can be an issue, and I don't have the shooty as a Lysanderwing, but there are more terminators.

What do you plan on using for Monoliths and other Skimmers? Perhaps 2L LC on the dreads... I think its an interesting list. It does however make me wonder why my DH army has less models than this at 2k though... hehe

Those are big concerns of mine, I guess just assault them both and pray?
I am wondering how competitve do you think this list will be.
I am thinking of dropping a dread in favor of a 6-man Ravenwing Squad for the homers.

I'd switch a few Lightning Claws for a Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield or two in the Standard Barrier's squad.. It's free and it's one of the unique strengths of the Deathwing. Every Deathwing squad I'd field would have at least one LC and Th/ss combo in it.
As for the Monolith, you can almost ignore it. Eldar and Tau Skimmers should have issues with the Assault cannons.
I'd try to include Ravenwing too. Not scattering is a wonderful thing for Terminators.

I agree with you and after some though, here is my new list:
Beliel, Master of the Deathwing w/ Lightning Claws = 130 ptz.
Deathwing Terminator Squad w/ 3 Lighting Claws, 2 Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield, Deathwing Standard = 240 pts.
x3 Deathwing Terminator Squad w/ Assault Cannon = 250 pts. (750 pts.)
x2 Deathwing Terminator Squad w/ CML, Chainfist = 240 pts. (480 pts.)
Dreadnought w/ Heavy Flamer in Drop Pod = 180 pts.
6-man Ravenwing Bike Squad = 220 pts.
Total = 2000 pts.
For all the standard Terminator Squads, I am thinking to give the sergent Lighting Claws and leave everyone else as Powerfist, Storm Bolter.
I was wrong on the Deathwing Standard, it only gives the unit it is with +1 Attack.
The general strategy is to roll up on a flank and drop the CC squad and 2 others first turn. That way if I am assaulting on turn two most of the time

I don't think I would mix CML wioth Chainfist, they are suited to different roles. Let us know how the list functions in actual game play.

A couple of points for your consideration:
-CML terminators are better candidates then sgts for twin-claws or thunderhammer/SS, as that way you don't lose shooting ability. -Dread just doesn't seem worth it. My venerable with same loadout is cheaper and still doesn't perform that great. Points better spent elsewhere (buffs for RW unit, like melta guns, speeder, etc)

My venerable with same loadout is cheaper and still doesn't perform that great. Points better spent The more I think about it, the more I am thinking of Dropping it. and puting more buffs on the Ravenwing Sqaud. I am also thinking of adding cheap Scouts in Drop Pods to increase my numbers.
