Up your nose with a rubber hose.

I've got every issue back to the introduction of 3rd edition 40K, and then a more sporatic collection dating from the end of 2nd edition to the introduction of Rogue Trader. Needless to say they take up a lot of room and were a pain in the butt to move from apartment to apartment to house. For those years that I had all 12 issues, I had them de-spined and punched so that each year's worth could be kept in a loose leaf binder.

I've decided I want to sell most of them, but I wonder if there's a market for White Dwarfs that have been altered in such a way and preferably sold by the year.

What do you guys think?

Most collectors won't want them that way, but some might not care. Only way to find out is to toss them on Ebay and see what happens.

Obvously they will have devalued considerably with the despining and punching, but there still may be a residual market for someone more interested in the content than the collecting side. It's probably worth a punt. Although with postage costs for something as heavy as 12 copies of WD I reckon you are unlikly to realise more than £5 or so for the annual bundle.

I may be wrong though, and my estimate of price is purely "finger in the air" stuff...

Ebay or your trash can is your best bet. Mine went the way of the latter.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I'd say, try and sell them by year on ebay, and make sure you charge enough on shipping that you aren't out any money. Be sure you post how much each lot weighs, and your shipping price, since that will probably be lots higher than your selling price.

List the dates & issue numbers, and anything special about the issues (Ork Flash Gits! or Genestealer Cult Rules!) to generate some interest. And price each year lot at $0.99 to start.

You will probably only sell a couple of years' worth, but you might generate some messages from people looking for specific issues, who are willing to pay for them.

After all, you paid for them, and got years of enjoyment out of them. Any money now is just pure profit.

[Edit] You might get some interest here in the trading forum, or on Bartertown.  I bet that wiould be issue-specific, so you should probably make a list of all the issue numbers you have, for quick reference.

it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

I agree with every above. Shipping is going to make any profit impossible, but if you're simply looking to get them a good home, somebody will buy them. As fellblade said, a good acccounting of articles, plus some pictures always help.

Hey guys, I lied. Well actually, I misspoke. I was typing up that post at work and absent-mindedly left out the very important "considered having" right between the "I had" and "them de-spined..." . For some reason, I thought people would prefer having a years worth in a convenient volume. Goes back to the early days of buying the UK editions before the US studio opened. The old UK editions had the pages marked for a hole punch so you could put them in a binder.

Anyway, thanks for the advice everyone. Lots of good points fellblade.

So after checking prices on eBay, I realized that I severely overestimated WD's collecibility. Even for mint issues. So after I go through all of them and pull the ones I want to keep, I'll probably give the Dakka folks dibs before trying my hand at eBay.

I've been working all week, putting up new shelves, and sorting my various gaming magazines, mostly WD. When you get a list together, let me know. I've been toying around with filling in all my holes and trying to get a full set back to number 1.
