Hey everyone,

When do you make the roll for Warp Focus?  It's an item of wargear from the CSM armoury that adds d6 inches to the range of a Psychic Power.  I've never used it before but I'm keen to try it out.

Do you
a) get to roll first, then select your target? 
or b) do you have to select your target *before* rolling for that range bonus?

I'm interested in RAW if it exists (which I doubt); alternately, in how people generally agree to play it.

I've always designated target first, then rolled the extra range.

Actually, designated target, then rolled psychic test, then rolled the extra range.

This got me thinking about what I do with my 1k Son sorcerer with bolt of change and focus, which is:

1. Eyeball if anything tasty is in 24" range, as that lets the bolters play too.
2. If it doesn't look like it, say "Hmm, I guess I'll try for ... that!"
3. Point at a tank or big critter or heavy armored target that looks like 25-30"
4. Wait for my opponent to get out their inevitible psychic hood and roll their dice
5. Crush their puny hood score with my own roll + 10
6. Finally roll the focus boost, then check range, then roll to hit, then kil kil kil.

7. Kill a thrall, and repeat steps 3-6, rerolling focus boost.

So I suppose I do (b).
