So I am working on my first Ork army.

Was looking for something that was semi fast moving,but I didn't want Speed Freaks.

In truth, not sure if I am looking so much for a winning combo, as more of a cause chaos across the batlefield theme.

So I went with a miss mash of what I had plus a couple other things I still need to get.

People have told me that Battlewagons are not worth the points, but I just can't resist the look of them.

You will have a pretty hard time winning games with this army list, IMO.

Hmm yes, most people take a lot of upgrades for ork units. but ork are at there best when kept simple and cheap. Normal shoota boys with lots of rokkit launchers, killer cans with rokkit launchers, and a few shooty buggies..

The best army you can make includes lots and lots of models. its very expensive and not a lot of people have this kind of army.

I would always always get the looted basalisk..

Looted basalisk (about 130 points??)

this list is about 1470 points..
the rest of your points you can spend at Iron gobs/bosspoles and more shoota boys per squad. You can also pick a few cheap choppas for your Nobs,warboss and Big mek...

The point is that you can field a massive army with lots of orks and lots of rokkit launcha's for 1500+ points. dont forget that a normal shoota boy has 2 attacks for 8 points...!

I rather get more squad nobs with power claws that cannot be picked out in CC. with two close combat weapons all nobs got 4 attacks in CC. A warboss can be picked out and be killed without doing a thing! A independent character (warboss/big mek) cannot be picked out with shooting when other targets are being closer.. why would you give them lots of armor then? I field the Ard boys (4+ armor save) with the big mek (5+ cover save force field) upfront so that the can take the bullets.

just as with the warbikes I like the twin linked shoota on the battle weagon... I kept him cheap.

The USSR aka the place with the bombs

first i would make your boyz 15 -20 gays in each squad because 10 bolters will kill the whole squad.
second drop the bikes and the battlewagon or 1 squad of shooter boyz and get 2 squads of truck boyz so you can 20 boys with 2 power claw in HtH on turn 2 to kill devs
also the ard boyz will die from 2 or 3 land speeders with AC and heaby bolters

anyway i find that shooty orks do not work. you need to get in to HtH asap
