Read the rules for shrike  and the raven guard,  They look like a fun army to play and i want to try to make it a tournament or leage worthy list.  Shrike and his retinue are really expensive unit that is very circumstansial on whether they will work or not if there is no infiltrate in the scenario they are boned and will most likley be shot to crap first turn.  But im thinking of adding in  4 mall units of assault troops or 2 large ones to absorb some fire and allow the gurad to hit combat.  And support them with some laz, plaz squads.  the list looks something like this.

HQ:  SHRIKE: 8x guard, 532

TROOPS:

7x Marines: Laz. Plaz  130

7x  Marines: laz, plaz   130

6x Scouts, 4x sniper rifle  85

FAST ATTACK

10x Assault marines, flamer, plasma pistol, vet sgt with power weapon . (Furious Assault, Melta bombs)   311

10X Assault marines, Flamer, Plasma Pistol, Vet SGT , power weapon,  (Furious assault, Melta bombs)   311

The list i believe i can make it work with some strategy, and careful placement of my army, tanks are not a big problem because of all the melta bombs, and monsterus creatures shold be no problem with shrikes unit.  The other fast attak units are there to tie down units and protect shrike.  what could i do to make this more competitive,  CRITICISM IS WELCOME

Nope.

Just say no to 500 pt units with T4 and 3+ saves.

If Shrike and his buddies ever get stuck in the open in front of any kind of firepower, you lose. Pretty much that simple.

Also, it's hard to have the assault squads absorb wounds when all it takes is a Ld test to shoot the Shrike squad.  And it's going to be catching 5 kinds of hell from everything that can see it.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Well, it is an expensive unit.

But it will be similar to running a Broodlord with the Nids.

You don't care about Deep Striking, waste of time.

Even without Infiltrate, you get to move 12" before the game starts. Move either behind or into cover for the stealth save bonus.
Then you get to move 12+6 assault on your turn. Pretty guaranteed a 1st round assault. (With Infiltrate, you can have you choice of targets. :-)

But, like the BLord, they will see those buzzsaws coming at them, and fire everything they can at you. But if you set up to be 12" from enough cover, you should be able to get into CC before they can shoot much at you.

Yeah, no. It's a cool concept, but as has been stated previously, this will get eaten by anything with a decent amount of mobile firepower. Heck, my mech guard would have a field day with this list! I mean, I've got 20 more men than you do, on top of 14 tanks. Maybe cut the guard down to just FC, BPs and chainswords with claws on sergeants?

Shrike's wing will be best with the absolute minimum. gives it the best odds of hiding and the best odds of leaving one or two guys in the squad they charge to catch bullets for them.

Really, best left on the shelf, but hey.
