Troll country

Hi all

I am very excited to start working on my new Ultramarines army. It will be themed around a tyranid hunting force and feature units such as Deathwatch and Tyrannic war veterans. There is a twist to the army though and it has to do with allowing more artistic license with the appearance. I want to do black trim and black helmets as well for the veterans. While the black trim does represent the 5th company I cannot find any reference to black helmets anywhere. So if you have seen the original Star Trek series episode entitled Mirror Mirror then you will quickly follow my concept for the army, which heavily borrows from that storyline. These Ultramarines come from a parallel universe and accidentally switch places with their counterparts in the 40k universe we all know during a warp jump. Note that I will be using the exact rules from the Space Marine codex. The Imperium in the parallel universe is a horror compared to what we know. The Emperor still lives and has crushed all the traitor legions. The Ultramarines are by far the most powerful Space Marines and enforce the will of the Emperor to the exact letter of the law. These Ultramarines see that justice is applied with a blind eye and have no compassion whatsoever. If anything they are more Ultramarine than the Ultramarines depicted in the 40k universe that we are familiar with.

I think that black and blue is a great color scheme and something a bit different than what we are used to when thinking about in terms of Ultramarines. I am also looking forward to creating a sinister looking Ultramarine army. Note that I will be using Tigerius at competitive events because I believe he has the most potential to appear as an evil Ultramarine.

Sounds fun. The fluff concept works- although the 40k fluff doesn't really include parallel universes to the best of my knowledge, you can certainly plug it in.

Should make for some great looking games given the current predominance of Godzilla Nid armies.

Yeah, that one was pretty amusing to me too. The regular Imperium is already a horror.

Wow I really like it! Depressing, brutal, dark, and yet totally awesome.

The parralel could be worse, assume the Emperor wasn't the benevolent saint, but rather an evil being, and that the Chaos Gods are of a benevolent chaotic (Chaotic Good) nature, etc. etc. , Horus was a Saint, etc, and you'd have pretty well a darker cacotopia (I think that's the right word).

Although, it occurs to me that you could stick to usual WH40k fluff and keep the list (more or less).

Second founding Ultramarine chapter, based off of those stricter tenets you liked above, basically formed to enforce order with an iron fist in the notoriously rebellious eastern fringe (seriously, those guys are jerks! I remember it being mentioned in the fluff, that since they are so far from normal imperial control, they often end up doing whatever they want).

Just an idea *shrug*

I like the idea, especially after just watching the Enterprise two-parter "In Mirror, Darkly..." (which takes place exclusively in the Mirror Universe.

They original Idea of a Mirrior universe was that humanity kept to the tenants of the old Roman Empire and wasn't "enlightened" like the crew of the Enterprise.

I think the concept works best with Ultramarines, because they litterally have their own empire and the thing I always disliked about them is that they where just to good to their subjects (the whole phrase "If I was living in the 40k universe I would live with the Tau or the Ultramarines").

I think you are better with a successor chapter that may have shared some of the same beliefs as the Ultramarines had at one time. If I was doing it it would have been a small outer "kingdom" that is near Ultramarine space. However when Behemoth arrived, instead of ralling with your Ultramarines as what happened with the Ultramarines during that crisis, the citizenship lead a revolt. After the dust settled, the Chapter Master declared himself absolute ruller of the planets he is in possession with and it all spirals down from there.

Besides the Ultramarine symbol wrapped around the Terran Empire Symbol would just rock.

Current Armies: Blood Angels, Imperial Guard (40k), Skorne, Retribution (Warmachine), Vampire Counts (Fantasy)

The successor Chapter is a good idea but I would rather not go with a Chapter that has revolted. The idea of purely evil Ultramarines is very appealing to me.

greenine-

if you check out the insignium astartes the helmets can be colored in the same way as the knees/shoulders/etc... to denote company markings....

For codex chapters white helmets have always marked the wearer as a vet.

Good luck with the army. It sounds fun.

I did not know that but now that I have come up with the black helmets I am liking the evil Ultras. To be honest I don't think most people will care how I paint the army as long as everything is WYSIWYG and they look like Ultras. Thanks again for that useful piece of advice.
